Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Reviews

Before I get into my review of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, let me explain something. I am a hardcore Transformers fan. My friends and I marathoned the first two seasons and the animated movie before I moved out here to Texas, I still buy the toys both old and new, and I will be indoctrinating my son as soon as he is old enough in the classic cartoons. That said Michael Bay's latest is a gloriously beautiful mess of sound and fury, with some things to like, some things to love, some things to absolutely hate and other things to question if they were absolutely necessary.

Bottom-Line: Don't expect great cinema and you won't be disappointed. 

The first Transformers movie released in 2007, grossed some 708 million dollar worldwide (319 domestically, 389 overseas) according to boxofficemojo.com.  Not a bad take for movie that lacked a coherent plot-line, but sort of made up for it by dishing out the action in loving spoonfuls.  With that kind of gross a sequel was a foregone conclusion and so Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen was born once again directed by explosion junkie Michael Bay (The Rock, Armageddon, The Island).

I couldn't wait to see Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen from the day I heard it would be playing at the IMAX.  All movies that I have seen at the IMAX have been awesome.  Dark Knight is a great example of that!  So as soon as we had a chance, we went and paid the 11$ or so price to see it at the IMAX.  The short story is - it was good, but not as good as the first.  I mean it was ALMOST as good as the first, but the first had the originality of a new, fresh story to build on whereas this one was not as original.

When I was a little children I used to watch the cartoon Transformers.  It was one of my favorite.  I used to love Optimus Prime, he was my favorite character.  So imagine my suprise and excitement when I learned that they were going to make a movie out of the Transformers.  I could not wait to see it.

I never did get to see the movie in the theater though.  I bought it though when it come out on DVD right away.  I was a little dispointed that I didn't get to see that movie in the theater.

I loved Transformers and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.   Me, my husband and children couldn't wait to see Revenge of the Fallen.  We all loved the first one so much.  The first one was a little racy but not too bad.  But oh my gosh, the Revenge of the Fallen was SO not for kids!!  We were on vacation in Myrtle Beach, SC the opening weekend so we took my twelve year old daughter and eight year old son to the theater at the mall to see it.  (going to the movies is not something I usually do while on vacation at the beach)    Anyway, my eight year old son had to keep his...

Transformers was better than the original!!  The story line was well articulated and the characters were 100% believable including the Transformers themselves!  The Transfomers had human characteristics making them enjoyable and the humor they possesed made then lovable!  The story line good vs bad was well done.  It wasn't just a super hero dominating the bad evil doer but the relationship between hero and those in trouble was very poignent. So I am a huge Transformers fan and thought the first one was fantastic! So it was a big surprise when the 2nd movie started and from beginning to end all it was full of was sex and vulgarity!  Now I remember watching this great cartoon when I was a kid, granted sometimes I didn't understand the story line my parents never had to worry about any harmful coming out of it.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen was an incredibly disappointing movie.  As someone who absolutely loved the first Transformers flick by Michael Bay, I thought this movie could have been so much better.  Sure, there were lots of explosions and fancy CGI effects, and lots of robot on robot violence (which is cool, don't get me wrong), but the story made absolutely no sense.  None.  Whatsoever.

Where do I start with this movie, how about the beginning where they started.Transformers Revenge of the Fallen. The action sequence in the beginning was awesome, as the Autobots are hunting hiding Disepticons. Gets the movie going in the right direction. However, the moment they introduce Megan Fox into the movie, it begins to go over the top. I would like to remind the readers, this is a movie based on a kids toy. It should have been targeted to the kids, with some action excitement for the adults. I thought that this movie was entertaining, but not a great movie.  The movie also ran a little long for my taste, but better too long than too short. 

Most of the characters were known from the first movie, but if you hadn't seen it you would be lost.  The new characters in this movie have little or no character development.  How long have they been on earth? Were they trained in something specific to be qualified to be sent to earth?  Do all of the autobots know one another?

I also do not understand why the Deceptacons are able to take the shape of flying electronics, while the Autobots...

Transformers:Revenge of the Fallen was an awesome movie.  It had loads of action through out the movie. The story line was great, kept you on the edge of your seat. I was very pleased that it exceeded the first movie. Had all the same main characters in the film. Loved the comedy aspect of the parents.  Has more transformers in the movie which was also great.  Love the actors, who wouldn't. It is definitely a must see on a big screen and worth addingto your DVD collection. The tiny remote car transformer and the old timer transformer were the best, so funny. Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen 2-disc set is not only an excellent movie but this set comes with a great bonus features disc with scenes that show the making of the movie and CGI effects. The package also has a hologram on the box that you can acess through the website online. Must have a webcam to use. Its a definite collector's item that needs to be in every transformers buff collection!!! This dvd is NOT a disappointment and a great gift idea!!

The vulgar language, sex, and making light of illegal drug use ruined what should have been a great film. The effort to use these unnecessary lines and scenarios to add humor did not remotely work and only served to detract much of this film's greatness. The robotic special effects were very good, as in the first Transformers film, but what's with the ridiculous co-ed transformer!? Transformer's are vehicles, electronics, inanimate objects; not humans (or cyborgs). A movie in which most of the main characters are toys should be suitable for the entire family! VERY DISAPPOINTING, Hasbro!
