My sister and I both have the same awful Cuisinart Grind and Brew Coffee Maker, so we buy whole bean coffee. On a recent trip to Trader Joe's, she suggested that I try their Scandinavian Blend Whole Bean Coffee, so I went home with two 13 ounce cans of the stuff.
Trader Joe's Scandinavian Blend Whole Bean Coffee contains a combination of medium and dark roasted organic and fair trade arabica coffee beans. The label suggests grinding the beans as you use them in a separate grinder and then using about 2 tablespoons of freshly-ground coffee for each 6 ounces of cold water. My coffee maker grinds and brews the coffee all at once, so I just use one "scoop" (came with the machine) per cup of coffee desired plus one extra scoop for good measure.
I really like this Scandinavian Blend Coffee. I usually only drink one big latte mug of coffee in the morning, but this is a lovely blend that is closer to "medium" than the "dark" end of the bean-roasting spectrum. I was drinking a really dark roast for awhile there and found myself dumping like a quarter of a bottle of flavored creamer into the mug just to change the color and sweeten everything up. Not so with the Trader Joe's Scandinavian Blend Whole Bean Coffee.
You really can't go wrong at $6.99 per 13 ounce can. I've paid $9.99 at Target for about a pound of Starbucks whole bean coffee and that is neither organic nor fair trade. Really, the only issue with this stuff is the fact that Trader Joe's stores are not available in every area. We are happy to drive the hour to the store, though, to stock up on goodies like this coffee. I'm definitely buying this whole bean coffee again!
