Not Bad For A Snack But Not As Good As Home Made

4

I've always been leery of Trader Joe's frozen foods; for vegetables and side dishes they have always been better than expected but for frozen entrees I've had mixed luck. I got a box of these to try them out; I was looking for another frozen Mexican food and saw these next to the burritos I was hunting for. There are 24 of them per package and they are easy to heat up but the shells can be soggy or limp if you do not cook them in the oven. The whole point of having food like this is to make a quick snack so you can't be too hard on them when grading them. The overall taste is a lot better than I expected but the shell is the biggest problem. If you microwave them they have a rubbery feel to them when you are biting into them so it comes off more as a soft shell taco that's been sitting around for a few hours rather than something that has some texture to it. A serving is four tacos; that contains 200 calories, 8 grams of fat, 320 milligrams of sodium, 21 grams of carbohydrates and 11 grams of protein. Almost all of the different mini tacos that they sell are in the same ballpark in regards to the calories, fat and carbohydrates per serving but if you like the taste of them chances are you are not going to be able to stop at having just four of them. If I have the time I would rather just make tacos from scratch and have enough seasoned meat for a couple of days. These are great if you want to put them in a toaster oven for about fifteen minutes but they aren't going to have the same crunch as homemade tacos.
