On preservative free diet

I recently found out that I have a preservative allergy and can not eat allergies in food. This has really changed the way I eat and shop.

When I first found out, I ate only fresh foods-- fruits and vegetables. I quickly got bored. I realized that was not really realistic. So, I ventured over to Whole Foods and spent about $400 on groceries trying to find preservative free/fresh foods. EEEkkk. Too expensive.

Then, I went over to Trader Joe's and I was so surprised to see how many foods were labeled preservative free and how cheap they were. My grocery bill was about 1/2 of what Whole Foods was....

I love Trader Joes!  This is a great grocery store that provides organic items at a very affordable price.  Not only that, you can find very unique items, again, at a very affordable price.  Very kid friendly too!  I can get about 80% of my grocery shopping done there.  Love it!

Reviewing Trader Joe's Downtown Chicago. Whole Foods-type quality will not be found here. Neither will the variety. Most of the produce seems to be non-organic but definitely a better price than Whole Foods. In addition, this is a healthier option than Jewel or Dominicks in my opinion.

There are certain interesting items to be found. For example, a super yummy snack mix called "Sweet and Hot" (or something similar) which has sesame covered almond slivers with spicy roasted pistachios and sweet peanuts. Plus, the mix is very affordable. Speaking of the nut aisle, the hazlenuts especially are of...

What can I say about Trader Joe's that has made it a success. For those who have not been there you must at least check it out. Yes it is a little trendy, but that being said it has many private label items not found anywhere else. Expect to pay more about 10-15% more than your average grocer. I highly reccomend that you go there and try a few things I usually get 5-6 new things just to try, they have lots of fun items and interesting items I have not really seen at most grocers. There quality on items are a solid 10 rating high quality tasty food. Staff is fantastic very nice tree huging... review »

a hellish shopping experience.  Lines around the entire store, so you cant get to anything on the outer walls, aisles full of shopping carts blocking and jamming everything.  A true fire hazard.  The absolutely worst shopping experience in existance.  This is one place a bargain is not worth it.  The agony of shopping here and the lenght of time you will be waiting to pay are worth far mort than what you will save.  Just say no.
