Tracfone Review Summary
If you are budget-conscious or an occassional cell phone user, the Tracfone may be the perfect cell phone for you. Tracfone reviewers say it is a "good and basic" phone. If you are looking for simplicity and usage in an emergency, this cell phone will do the trick. However, don't expect lots of perks and service. .According to users, customer service is spotty and so is battery life.
cost-conscious, computer literate
I first signed up with Tracfone in May 2001, and they've never disappointed me. I don't have dropped calls. I have service nationwide. My calls are crystal clear. — — That being said, I don't use my cellphone a lot - - - but that's me - - I'm not a big phone person. But I carry it so if my car breaks down when I'm traveling, I can call AAA. Or if I'm meeting a friend for lunch and he's running late, I can call him. When I buy 250 minutes for a year's service, I'm probably going to carryover minutes to the next year. And that's when I call…

a techie, cost-conscious, computer literate, a woman, a magazine reader, always seeking good tips, too busy to make beds, listening to books on tape
We have been Tracfone customers for over six years now. We bought our first phones when I was pregnant with our oldest child, because I wanted a way to reach my husband in case of emergency. At that point, we weren't ready to leap into a full cell phone plan, when we weren't sure if we'd ever use the phones, so Tracfone was perfect. The price was right, the phones worked well, and they gave us what we needed -- a way to make a phone call wherever we happened to be. — — Every now and then we'll have the conversation -- "Are we missing out on something by not…

Tracfone has insanely poor customer service. They can not do simple tasks, put you on hold incessantly, and do not speak legible English. — I have been shipped 4 phones. We have spent countless hours on the phone just trying to receive a phone that worked (two phones didn't work out of the box and one quit after 2 weeks, the newest works--so far) and to each phone activated due to technical issues. I had to correct the problems on their end with my ideas. — They are pulling their customer service reps from the…

After losing my engineering job, and forced to work security I could no longer afford regular phone service, so I tried Tracfone. I've had a couple different phones and all have done great! I got my phones with minutes for less than $20. If you're looking for a cheap phone service, and you're an occasional phone user Tracfone is a great option! I've had signals, even when others haven't. — — The customer service isn't the greatest, but then again this seems to be a trend in America today. Outsource our jobs to save money, and customer service seems to go downhill in the…

Buyers beware.... Worst Service Ever!!!!! — — I am on my third TracFone... — — I had purchased this phone via their website. The first phone that I had received ... did not work. So after being on the phone with them 1 1/2 hours... the decided that they would replace me with a another one... which was refurbished! — — Guess what? This one did not work either! Then they decided ...after a little over 2 hours on the phone with them... the decided to mail me a third... And surprise... this one does not work either! After being on the phone with them for a…

cost-conscious, dependent on my phone, Every day computer user, into trying new things
I've been using Tracfone since I could remember. The great thing about the phones are that they aren't anything fancy! If you want to spend $300 on an iPhone so you can access the internet and whatnot, be my guest. Tracfone cell phones sell from $20 to $50, and they come in cool colors (ok, maybe black, silver, and pink). They are a breeze to use! It's a pay as you go "contract," so it can be either light or heavy on your wallet. — — Their customer service isn't the greatest. It's a hassle to call them. So, if I ever have a problem, i'll get someone to call them for me so I…

a busy person, expecting good, fair service, usually just making or receiving a call, Every day computer user, appreciative of good service, not rich
I purchased the Tracphone prepaid plan and cellphone together as a package. I am self employed and needed to have the cellphone to be available to clients and peers, even when I was out of the office. I also wanted the phone to carry with me in case of an emergency. I was wary of signing on for an extended service contract with Verizon, Sprint or another provider. Had heard horror stories of people getting huge monthly bills. The prepaid plan which provided me with a year of service and 600 minutes gave me the opportunity to try the phone out and see if it met my needs. One year later, I have…

cost-conscious, Every day computer user, not into status, a person who likes a bargain
I have been a Tracfone user since 2001, and I see no reason to change anytime soon. The phone obviously has it's pros and cons, but it's perfect for someone like me. Everyone I know uses a 'monthly plan' for their phones, so this is much cheaper than that, at least for me and my family. I'm certainly not a person who uses my cell phone very often, but I use it a few times a week. Here is my experience: — * Use the current online deals to get the best value. For $99 you get a phone, a year of service, and about 400 minutes of phone time. The…

cost-conscious, daily driver, a busy person
I have a cell phone for emergencies and for the basic niceties of life (Honey, I'm stuck in traffic and will be late or do I need to stop at the store on my way home and get milk). I'm not one of those people who, as soon as the announcement on the plane says you can turn your cell phone on, has it out, flipped open and is giving the poor person on the other end of the line the play by play of the plane taxiing to the gate. — I chose a prepaid plan because it was $100 a year for 150 minutes. I used maybe 100 of those the first year. They've been giving me double minutes every year since…

I am so disgusted by my recent Tracfone Customer Service experience. I ordered a special promotion on-line and got ripped off in the process. The cell phone was ordered for my daughter so that I would have contact with her during after-school activities. After I placed the order, it was confirmed that I would receive the phone and cell phone case that I ordered for my other daughter within 3 days with free shipping. — The 3 days came & went with no phone!! I called the Tracfone Customer Service department to track my order, and they blamed the delay on FedEx. They then…

I am trapped. Trapped and miserable. Tracfone has me hostage. I live in a somewhat rural area of the upper midwest and the ONLY pay as you go service is either Tracfone or Net10, which is Tracfone in another disguise. Their customer service is beyond lousy. It is outsourced. They have no idea. They can only read from scripts. If you are having a problem with any aspect of your service, forget getting ANY assistance from these clowns. — Example: 18 months ago I started to purchase airtime on their web site. I realized I used the wrong checking account in payment area, I was closing that…

Every day computer user, not rich, appreciative of good service, a pet owner, not duct taped to my cell phone
I've had Tracfone for over 3 years and I love it. IN total, across those 3 years I've spent under $400 on it - and dh has probably spend about $200. So $600 for 38 months - that's a LOT less than we were spending on our monthly plan (which came to about $40 per month - and was the cheapest we could find at the time). I recently bought a new airtime card from Tracfone.com for 400 minutes, with LIFETIME double minutes - so 800 minutes. It cost me $139 - and I've added the "emergency" feature where if I run out of minutes, or my time is set to expire, for a ONE TIME…

We have had a Tracfone for several years and were very happy with the plan since we only wanted it for "on the road" calling and brief messages. Lately, however, we have been very disappointed in the service....we simply don't get any service! As soon as we are more than 50 miles from home we get a message that says"searching for network" and it never does find a network. This has happened in areas where we know there is service available (like the Minneapolis airport area). I called from home to discuss the problem and was told to call back when I was somewhere where…
