For low cost cellphones, but bad customer service: Tracfone

Tracfone —
I Bought a Tracfone last year from wal-mart, got home, went online to activate, said it was good to go. Tried calling the number I was supposed to have and got someone else's voicemail. Went back on the site, and literally every 5 minutes on the site it would say there is a problem with your phone, type in these several extremely long codes into your phone to resolve it. Well, needless to say it wasn't working that night. Next day called Customer service, I've never heard such lack of knowledge and incompetence in my life. After spending over an hour on the phone with the woman of her walking me through steps that acommplished absolutely nothing (more long codes and her trying to convince me I wasn't getting enough signal... I could call out with it just fine, i just couldn't receive any calls because it was going to the other person's voicemail) I asked them about if the number could be changed because that's what I believed the problem was and they said yes but we'll have to mail you out a new sim card to do it so you'd have to wait quite some time. So instead I took it back and exchanged it at wal-mart and VOILA the new one worked just fine, so much for tech support.In addition tracfone disables alot of features on their phones so that you are forced to buy ringtones from them, on my phone the bluetooth is good for headsets only, and the usb which on all other phones like it (non-tracfone) would let you connect to a windows pc and it would automatically recognize it as a mass storage device allowing you to add MP3 ringtones and retrieve pictures. But sadly these built in features that it should have had just aren't there, not to mention the web browser only takes you to the TF website and nowhere else.
So, if you don't need many minutes, luck out on a phone, don't need ringtones and aren't bothered by the fact that they had to have paid someone to write code to disable built in features just so they can make more money off of you, and you never need customer service then it's not too bad. Otherwise, steer clear.
