Inappropriate?

I am a big lover of board games, as evident by the list of reviews I already have in that department. I love being able to sit down with a friend (or 2 or 3) and play games such as Risk, Monopoly, Scrabble, and many others. In the age of video games, are you a fan of boards games? If so, what are your favorites?

Settlers of Catan is probably one of my favorites. Though the ALL TIME favorite has to be monopoly. I like board games well enough, we just don't have many of here that are for people over the age of 5.

I don't play board games often anymore but do enjoy Monopoly and Scrabble. For a long time, my wife and I enjoyed Boggle, but that's not really a board game.

We play
Loaded Questions and
Taboo a lot b/c those are great group games and since they are not trivia, you can usually always have a fresh start. Pictionary is fun too but we tend to play it different all the time.

I like Scrabble and Scategories. My whole family enjoys 20 Questions which has been reviewed here at VP. I have reviews on Dog-o-poly and other fun monopoly style games and if you're playing with kids I've reviewed 25 Games in a Box, ABC Dice and others. Great topic. I look forward to reading all the answers.

I like Scrabble. My mother was the Scrabble queen, pretty much unbeatable. I like Monopoly, played ruthlessly. All-time fave board game? Boulderdash!

I would count Boggle as a board game. It sits on the same shelf in our house, and is one of those fun word games that I love to play.

Super Scrabble, absolutely. I will admit though that the one drawback to living alone is the usual lack of a human partner to play a board game WITH so I generally am gung-ho for the opportunity to play any game in face-to-face combat. No matter how great a computer game may be (and some of them really are) there's nothing like the great social give and take from playing with another human!

I have to agree with you there. I find some of the online games fun, but it is much more fun to play with someone there in person. I have found this most important when playing games like Chess.

I totally love board games. Unfortunately my husband hates them and I have only one friend who loves them as much as I but I only see her like once a year. Needless to say we usually stay up playing all night like a couple of 12 year olds at a slumber party only with booze and a lot more swearing. We usually end up trading houses on those days so that our husbands stay at one house and we stay at the other so that they can get some sleep. We're really loud and crazy. I honestly don't know how my parents didn't kill us during those teen years.
My favorites are: Sequence, Tribond, Fact or Crap, Dark Tower, anything trivia related, Game of Life. We really laugh our butts off when we play CatchPhrase and Fact or Crap.

My husband and I love to play Trivial Pursuit--the original, 20th anniversary edition, Pop Culture, etc. We are geeks and like to put our brains to work. We are also the nerds that you see at the local dive bar playing the NTN Trivia on the TV.
When we have company over, we play Pictionary. We played Battle of the Sexes once or twice (and loved it!) but after that we had already gone through all of the questions so we gave up on it.

I'd have to say for board games, Monopoly takes my cake. Unfortunately, with the way my friends play it, it becomes a "ruthless, savage, use real money to buy things from people, team up on one person till they're out" type of game. Which usually ends up with someone storming out in a huff. It brings me a lot of laughter.
I was introduced to Apples to Apples about a year ago, and its probably one of the most fun, most controversial games there is. If you play it or have played it, you'll know what I mean.
Guestures is another fun one.

I'm with Mr X. Apples to Apples is a great game. I picked it up a few weeks ago and we play it all the time now. If you don't know much about it www.playyourredcard.com is a good place to get a feel for it.
A co-corker also recommeded Pictionary Man to me recently. Has anyone played it yet?

I have not played Pictionary Man but I checked it out at the store. I don't know if I like the idea, but if you try it out let us know (write a review) b/c I'm curious how it actually works out.
I asked my sister for "The Big Taboo" for christmas, hope she finds it :) I saw it in a store and it is like Taboo but with four ways to play, and I believe there's a bendy character in there that is kind of like the pictionary man game.

Like Bob, I hardly ever play board games as of late. In college - the apex of my board game playing days - I used to play Axis & Allies and I even bought the 2004 updated version. I also have a Monopoly - Star Wars: Episode I Edition and a Trivial Pursuit: Star Wars Classic Trilogy Edition.
