I purchased a Leapster for my son who is 5 and getting ready to start kindergarten. It gives him something to do while in the car or waiting at an appointment. We have two Leap Frog Lily toys. One is small that attaches to her stroller or carrier. The other is a doll. My daughter has loved to play with her Lily since she could lift her neck and smile. Lily mostly teaches numbers with music and other objects. This style of learning I can say first hand is very effective. If you have room in your budget, the Step 2 Sand and Water Activity Center is well worth your money! We purchased ours on sale for $60 and even my frugal husband agrees that it was a smart purchase. — My handy husband said that it was easy to assemble, even with the "help" of two toddlers. My son is 16 months old and loves to color. I bought the crayon TaDoodles which say they are for 12+ months and older. Because they are weighted, he has a hard time holding the crayon just right to make it color. It's really awkward for him to hold. His friends have the same exact problem as well. The Crayola Color Wonder could not be a better creative outlet for kids! This is such a great item to bring with you on the airplane, in a restaurant, the car or of course at home.
