We bought our Prius in August 2005.It's been a joy to own in the time we've had it. There is no learning curve with the car - you can get in and go! We bought it for the mileage and the fact that we can take five people in the car - as long as three of them are children. Four folks fit comfortably, although it's probably tight in the backseat for really tall people.

At first, I did not like the speed display because it's in a different spot than on our mini-van. But now I think it's a much better display. It's placement allows you to keep your eyes on the road more easily than the gauge display on other cars. On the Prius, it's in front of the driver, but right under the windshield. Makes sense, huh? That's where your eyes should be, for the most part.

The display screen for MPG, heat/AC, audio controls, and energy usage is a fun little gadget. It's a blast watching my mileage go up when I coast to a stop after fillling the tank. And the controls on the screen for the audio system are pretty intuitive. But I have to take exception with the heat/AC controls. This is one area I would have preferred dials, buttons, and slide controls.

Gas mileage is one reaon we got the Prius. While it seldom gets the MPG stated on the sticker, it is definitely better than our van or even our daughter's Corolla. To be fair, we have gotten over 60 mpg when stuck in traffic and crawling along, but that doesn't happen often. Normally it's 45 mpg in the colder months in New England and about 55 mpg in the summer. Remember, your mileage may vary!

All in all, this has been a fine family car for us. While it doesn't have the capacity of our Grand Voyager, it can cart the kids and me around admirably and comfortably - all while saving me a bit at the gas pumps.
