Toyota Prius - 2004 —
We bought this Prious with 5000 miles on it and took off the same day for a long weekend - drove NY to Michigan 4 adults comfortably. We have driven this car to Texas, South Carolina and all over NY for a lot less than you would expect. We get 47 - 49 mpg spring thru fall, about 43 -45 in the winter. We live in the hilly country of the fingerlakes of NY. I absolutely love this car, plan on driving it until it konks out - several yrs from now - and then buying another! Lots of room inside, I ride in the backseat quite a bit while our teenager learns to drive with hubby in the front. I love the onboard computer for mpg / energy consumption. I know we were smart now that gas has gone over $4/gal! Stereo and sound system have been approved by our teenage children and they have all called dibs on the car when we buy another. Maint is less expensive with this car also, 76000 miles and only oil changes and a set of tires! My only real complaint with this prius I also had with my Dodge - the "cab forward" design of the windshield causes a blind spot where the support comes down from the roof to the hood - same in both cars, just need to move your head forward or backward a bit to get a clear view of traffic when crossing the highway. People are always surprised at how quiet it is, the gas engine does not run all the time and you can sneak up pretty good. I let my daughter drive it once and had to give a "whack" we were going 92 on the highway - still good gas mileage tho. Lots of power and comfort - the perfect family car and all our golf clubs fit inside!
