I purchased a 1994 Camry knowing it had some cosmetic work but was assured it was mechanically sound and was told by the lot, Lawrence Hall Supercenter in Abilene , Texas that their mechanic tested it and it was in good running order. They outsourced to a mechanic in town and I went to talk to him and he tells me the car has a shot cylinder, and he had disclosed this to the salesperson paying for the damages however, now no one is taking responsibility.
I am disabled and needed a car to be able to get me to my doctor's appointments which are over 100 miles one way. I was assured that car was mechanically sound verbally by the salesman .I paid $2810.05 cash for the car which now needs expensive repairs and was suggested an entire engine would be the best bet which is approximately $2000. I ran a VIN check on the car and it has been totaled out by insurance company and is a salvage piece. I still to this day do not have a copy of or original title to this vehicle and I feel that the mechanical problems are the dealer's responsibility. They only provided me with an out of state certificate copy of inspection performed the last day I went to the dealership 5/22/09. This should have been done when I drove the car off the lot. They put me in an unsafe vehicle stalling and drinking oil gluttonously.
Car still stalls and drinking oil incessantly. I have to put a new engine in it for it to even function. They knew this because they should have had the list of all repairs and the title in their hot hands before letting me drive it off. As far as I am concerned, the title is still not in my name so they are responsible if I get tickets for no license plates etc, they should be held accountable for the cost of the engine and install which is about $1500 at least.
Shady deal all over this place. They don't want to give you paperwork and they double talk you and lie lie lie. They are breaking the law and they really could care less because my car is junk and they knew it...times are hard, so they get pure profit from a junk yard and junk parts and steamcleaning. Please beware of these dealerships. I got my other car repossessed by the awful Wells Fargo Auto Finance, another one to avoid so I had to have something reliable but nothing gorgeous to get me to my dr. appointments so far away. I will continue to report them on every level, federal, state, county, organizations and I suggest if you are in Texas don't buy a used car from a dealership....especially any of the many Lawrence Hall Dealerships.
