Before delivering my baby, I bought this model of the Total Gym Fitness Quest 1700 at Dick's Sporting Goods while it was on sale. After I was cleared to exercise, I began to use the gym and love it. It saves me the expense and hassle of gym membership, as well as the gas expense going to and fro. I am able to pull it out, set it up in the kitchen, and get a good flexibility and strength workout while the baby naps. I can understand why Chuck Norris got turned on to this product while recovering from an injury. I find this to be a gentle but effective way of regaining my pre-pregnancy fitness.
Benefits of the Total Gym include its quiet operation, its wide variety of exercises, and its Pilates capabilities. With one or two practice runs, attachments are very easy to apply and remove. There are a few drawbacks to the Total Gym 1700; it doesn't slide easily under the bed, and is quite heavy at about 70 pounds. We keep ours neatly against a wall in the kitchen for ease of movement. It also doesn't offer a tremendous leg workout; for legs, I would recommend squats, lunges, and outdoor cardio such as running or walking.
For what a person would spend on this machine, you more than pay for a year of gym membership. If you really use it a few times a week, you can attain tone, flexibility and strength.
