The Total Gym is a very cool idea. The resistance training that it offers is both strengthening and safe. Basically you lift your own body weight by sitting on the sliding bench and pulling the bands. It's amazing how many exercises you can do with this thing-- there are a stack of "exercise cards" that come in the box. Each card has explicit instructions of how to do each exercise and what parts of the body it should effect. The Total Gym can also be used by mostly anyone because it can be adjusted from easy to hard. I should say though, even the "easy" setting is pretty hard for the average Joe. The downside to The Total Gym is obviously the price as well as the fact that it is SO heavy and awkward to move. Even adjusting the machine for different exercises is somewhat awkward. Overall, unless you are super dedicated to it, The Total Gym will sit in your garage and gather dust.
