Toshiba Satellite Review Summary

Toshiba has been a major player in the portable computer market for almost two decades, and offers a wide range of choices at various price-points. The company’s Satellite line of laptop’s are designed for the user looking for low cost, high performance machines. Our community of every-day portable computer users has mixed feeling about their machines; while one reviewer hailed it saying “I have had my Toshiba for about 3 years so far. It is still working wonderfully and has not given me any problems yet,” while more than one reviewer decried the laptops’ tendency to over-heat. This rather large laptop is equipped with a 17” TFT active matrix screen, powerful Intel Core Duo processor at 1.7GHz, up to 2GB DDR2 RAM, wireless LAN, and expansive hard drive. Again while some reviewers highly recommend the Toshiba Satellite laptop, others found it somewhat lacking. Read what our reviews have to say about this product as well as the Lenovo ThinkPad T43 PC and Lenovo 3000 series laptop computers.

This is the first of two laptops that we have in the house, and it stands out primarily because of the large display screen.  When opened, the display measure out at 15.4 inches diagonally, and is basically big enough to suit a desktop computer.  The size of the screen does make… read full review »

We expected a good computer with the Toshiba name and have been nothing but disappointed.  It is slow, and has already been "fixed" once for the overheating problem, but it persists.  We have to prop it on something to keep it running.  If you look up lemon in the dictionary, there is a picture of this computer next to it. — — — — — —… read full review »

I have had two Toshiba Satalites and am very happy overall. The one BIG problem I've had is with my last one. Its a Satelite p15 s420 has had two broken power jack plugs. Took to a computer store and they wanted over $400 to replace the mother board. I bought the part and had it soddered in and worked fine. 3 mos later the same thing happened yet it was harder to find the part. If this is going to happen all the time I won't be buying anymore Toshiba laptops. My first one was a satelite also and used for 3 yrs before the hinges gave way. They do not have hinges so you can fix it. The p15 I… read full review »

I bought this laptop about a year ago and its still up to date with the memory i got the 2GB and 250mb hard drive. I love this computer is really good for school typing and writing notes. I like the new vista program. My laptop is the 15.4inch monitor and it weighs about six pounds or a little more. I wish the laptop was a little more compact and not so heavy, i probably should have gone with the 13 inch so it would be better to carry around at school. besides that its fast and works really well for online browsing, typing papers, storing music and pictures. —… read full review »

It is more than three years now since I bought my first laptop (Toshiba Satellite). I didn't go for any repair purpose and I didn't even thought of calling Toshiba Customer Service. Simply because I haven't have any single problem with my laptop. The only thing I was a little bit suffering from is the DVD ROM. It is not always working well. However, I can predict the reason which is the too-much-using thing. Everything else is fine and nice. I always advice my family members or my friends to buy Toshiba Satellite Laptops. — … read full review »

I got the deal of a, lifetime This computer listed for 1200 new I bought it on ebay for 150$ a year later. I thought their would be a problem cause I got it so cheap. Then I found out the guy who had it didn't know how to reformat. I whiped it  and put the format disks in and Iv had it for 4 years now with no problems. I have been able to endure all the upgrades  from microsoft with the exception of IE7 I need to upgrade the ram but this is the only problem I have… read full review »

I got this from a local rent to own store. The first Toshiba laptop I got there overheated all the time so they sent it in to get repaired so I was given a loner of the same kind. My laptop came back but it still had the same problem, so I was given the loner permanetley. I was told by the rental company that I could not place my LAPTOP in my lap because it blocks off the fan and causes it to overheat. I wouldn't recommend this particular brand to… read full review »

I have had my Toshiba for about 3 years so far. It is still working wonderfully and has not given me any problems yet. I download a LOT of music, pictures, and movies/videos and still have memory left. I am pretty rough on it as well, as I travel and carry it around everwhere. I use it constantly, and it is sometimes on for extensive amounts of time, but even so, the performance stays on a high… read full review »

Ever since I bought this laptop, so far I've experience nothing but constant break downs of the laptop and bad customer services I received over the phone with toshiba customer services hotlines.  I constantly had to send my laptop in for services every 3 months and it always seems to be the same problem that they said they had already fixed.  Toshiba customer services will indirectly deal with your problems by constantly tranferring you from one country to another, and I am not kidding you, I called different hours of the day and you'll get someone else from another country trying… read full review »

I would definitely recommend a Toshiba Satellite computer! I have had my computer since I started college and  now 4 1/2 years later I'm still using it. Of course it's had some problems, just recently I had to take it in and get it repaired because it was overheating and would just shut off. This did make it a little difficult when you were right in the middle of a final or something important and it would just turn off. It is however completely my fault that I let it go on for such a long time because  I did know that something was going wrong because for about a… read full review »

This computer can be purchased for less than $400 if you watch for it to be on sale.  It's available at stores like Best Buy and Circuit City.  The base DDR is 512MB  (program running memory) but it can be upgraded to 2G for about $80.  Hard disc space is 80GB which is plenty for basic word processing, spreadsheets and email.  Computer runs VISTA home basic quite well but probably will be sluggish if you try to upgrade to VISTA premium. — Keyboard is big enough to be almost 'full size'--great for 'big hands'.  Positioning of delete and tab keys is a bit… read full review »

I was lucky enough to get one of the Toshiba Satellite laptops on Black Friday of 2007 for a very good deal.  It came with Windows Vista loaded on it which made the computer horribly slow with the 512 MB RAM that came standard.  Other than running slow & the fan kicking on a lot it has been awesome for daily use plus it has been taken on many trips already. —  I upgraded the RAM to 2 Gigs, got one of the laptop cooling devices, & got a keypad protector & have had no problems with it since then.  My advice for anyone who uses a laptop is to get a cooling pad or… read full review »
