Toshiba x205 makes gaming short lived!

By

Comments about Toshiba Satellite X205 Notebook PC:

When I got the x205 I was psyched I use the computer alot and my other laptop was worse for wear. For the ever day type online surfing and stuff I had no problem with the system. The screen is a beautiful size especially if you like PC gaming. I was warned that the unit was prone to overheating though and once I started to play world of warcraft again it was sadly proven right. At first I was playing on my desk and the first night I didn't notice cause I was to distracted. The next time I played though I started getting annoyed that the pads on my fingers on my left hand where getting numb. I checked the system with my other hand and sure enough the left hand side was so hot it had come up and through the keys and since the heat was a gradual but steady increase it made my fingers numb before I noticed the heat. When I ended up sick I played but I turned the system off once an hour, I was worried running it that long. The system is fine if I am not playing games on it but if I am it is bad enough where I am afraid it is going to hurt the internals, let alone if I actually set the system on my lap! The graphics are awesome but after about 25 min of gameplay it starts to run so poorly I have to turn all the settings down so low it is compareable in performance as my two year old non-gaming laptop. Ultimately the system is to hot to game and to large for everyday stuff.

Great entry level gaming laptop at a good price.

Comments about Toshiba Satellite X205 Notebook PC:

I purchased my Toshiba X205-9800 laptop about 2 years ago. So far it has been a great laptop and I have no regrets. I am a avid PC gamer and have been for many years. I needed something to keep me gaming on the road when travelling. After looking around at other brands on the market I found the Toshiba had all the features I wanted and was right at, if not under my price range

Cosmeticly I think this laptop is one of the best looking laptops I've ever seen. The X205 has a good amount of horsepower. It plays all my favorite games (WoW,Cod 4,Left4Dead,TF2) flawlessly. It will struggle to play something like Crisis. Another big plus is the stand alone Geforce 8700M PCI-e video card. Great card and the PCI-E slot leaves room for future upgrades unlike an integrated video card that most laptops use.

Physically this laptop is a little on the "big" side but I really do enjoy having a full size keyboard, which is a must for PC gaming. The screen is a very nice size, but it does have a little too much back-lighting for my liking.

The battery life could be a little better. It doesn't seem to last very long even when it's set on low consumption mode.

All in all I am very happy with this laptop and I highly recommend the X205-9800 to anyone looking to game on the road that doesn't want to spend a ton of money.

I was excited, but then was disappointed

Comments about Toshiba Satellite X205 Notebook PC:

I got a Toshiba because they never let me down before.  I had a desk top that lasted 10 years before I finally got rid of it, and it was still running, then.  This laptop crapped out on me 3 months after I got it and spent more time getting fixed over 2 years than working.  I orinally got it for a gaming laptop to play some of the upper graphical cames at time that I bought the laptop.  It's heavy and bulky.  The screen is large, which is a plus, but so are several other laptops that work better.  The only reason I never replace the laptop was financial reasons.  I couldn't even sell it to anyone because it was always dieing on me and no one wanted to deal with a half dead computer.

When the computer was working, it worked great.  Graphics were good, I could run several programs before I could notice any sort of lag in anything.  The keys were spaced far enough a part that Typing was not an issue.
