This is the first of two laptops that we have in the house, and it stands out primarily because of the large display screen. When opened, the display measure out at 15.4 inches diagonally, and is basically big enough to suit a desktop computer. The size of the screen does make the laptop a little larger (and heavier), but if you are looking for a bigger than average screen and equally large keyboard, then this is a product that could definitely fulfill those wants.
The Toshiba Satellite comes with 1 GB of installed RAM, a hard drive capacity of 1 GB as well, and runs off of an Intel Pentium D processor. Load up on our wireless network is quite quick, and even with all of the software programs that are installed, it buzzes right through the start-up screens. That wireless connection is attained through its integrated 802.11 b/g LAN technology, which enables the laptop to work really well on the go, and to hook up with any other networks that you may be traveling through. Connecting is quite easy, and you don't really have to worry about slowing down, as the speed of the laptop keeps up with most anything you can throw at it.
When purchased, this one was set up with a CD/DVD rewritable drive so that we can not only burn CD's, but play them and DVD's at our leisure. The screen gives us a great picture whether it is from a DVD or an online television show, and the sound that comes from the speakers is remarkably good for a laptop in my opinion. With this laptop you could almost say that you have a portable theater with you that will allow you to either relax in a chair or on the couch to watch, or to set it up on a table or desk for several people to watch at the same time. Battery life is a problem with programs like that and the screen which drains the power, so if you are not plugged into an outlet we are talking about 2 hours max life unless you have an additional external battery to hook up. It's not a problem if you have an outlet, and if you choose, you can dim your screen during use to save a few bars of energy.
Using the laptop is very easy, and carrying it around is not that much of a burden even though it weighs almost 10 pounds (9.75 to be exact). Putting it into a carrying case along with the external parts makes it easy to lug around, and you barely notice the extra weight after a few trips. There have been times when the computer has heated up a lot, but like most laptops, if you give it a little rest after a few hours of work, it gives the fan time to catch up and presents no problems in the long-haul. After several years of this laptop being in the household, it has stood up quite well, and is still running almost as well as the day it was purchased. If you are looking for a fast working laptop that presents a very large viewing screen, this could be a great option for you.
