Toshiba Satellite Laptop —
My HP laptop was on its last legs so I bought a Toshiba Satellite to replace it. Immediately I had issues with it but I was traveling internationally in 2 days so I vowed to contact service as soon as I got back. When I got back I contacted service and after numerous calls I was sent a shipping package to return it. A month later I was contacted and I was told that it was determined it was a "user created problem". I told them it was like that when I got it and they said it was not a manufacturing issue and I would need to pay to replace the mother board. I said no and they said they would return it to me. A month later no laptop so I called and was told they were waiting for my check because I would not give my credit card. I told them I did not authorize repairs so please send the laptop back. Almost a month later I received it back with a bill for shipping.Just over two years after I purchase it the problems got worse and I looked for solutions on the internet. I found a site tracing defects and they show letters from Toshiba stating it is a design flaw with connection between mother board and power supply and will fix it free of charge. I called Toshiba and they stated it was out of warranty and would have to pay almost as much as original laptop to fix it. I told them I reported it as defective when I bought it and they claimed it was customer issue despite what their technical reports stated because it was out of warranty and I should have paid for the warranty if I wanted them to fix it.
Further research revealed this is a known issue with Toshiba Satellite Laptop series and Toshiba just kept changing model numbers to prevent customers to realize they were selling lemons.
