I bought this laptop in July for school and maybe a week or so after getting it the w key fell off. A few weeks after that I had to send it back and the hard drive would have to be replaced. I've had another key fall off about 2 months ago. It works but get slow at times so I have to restart it which gets to be a hassle when you're doing homework. I'm getting a pell grant in a few months and definitely going to get a new one!!

I had a Dell Laptop for approximatley 2 years and had nothing but problems with it. Everytime I would send it in for something to be fixed it would come back with something else wrong. When the battery finally quit working I did some research and purchased this Toshiba laptop instead. I have had no problems with this and have had it since the summer. I like the built in memory card reader on the laptop. It makes it very nice to download pictures for a photography nut like me. I wish it had a webcam installed, but that is not something i was interested in the time of purchase. It is slow when first turning on/waking up. Which can get annoying, especially to an impatient person like me. The battery life is very good on this laptop for the amount i use it. I really like the large screen this laptop has also. However, over all I like this laptop and would recommend this to a friend. It is a really good laptop for the price i paid for it.

This is my first laptop which I bought it on December 2009. It is a nice laptop for the price, I use it for school and personal use. During the first few weeks I had a problem with the audio but when I called customer support, they helped me and guide me step-by-step to reset the computer to factory settings. It fixed the problem until a couple months ago, but I did the same thing they told me to do before and it is fixed again. This computer has survived being dropped and handled by my one-year-old daughter. Sometimes it runs slow and have to restart; it is is over a year old now but it still does the job.

While I do have to give this computer accolades for lasting as long as it has under some pretty hard conditions, (constantly moving around the house, 2 children and a computer illiterate husband bent on catching every virus my ZoneAlarm misses, being whacked now and then on a wall in transit) it also has some definite drawbacks. I have to start with the graphics. While capable of playing streaming movies from sites such as Netflix, it can only handle basic gaming. Too much flash overwhelms it. 3D gaming? Forget it. And due to the fact that the fans are mere millimeters from whatever surface it is sitting on, it has a problem overheating when playing even Facebook games for a long time, or watching Netflix. The placement of the speaker output plug (for headphones or non - USB external speakers) is Right under the mouse pad. Very bad design. Even if you type properly with your wrists elevated, when you use the mouse pad, it puts pressure right over that jack. Mine stopped working in under a year. Thank goodness for USB speakers. (Which you do need if you want to listen to music- the onboard speakers are very tinny and the volume does not go very high.) Also, because the mouse pad is so centralized, it's awkward typing or using the keyboard while also needing to use the mouse pad. If you aren't directly in the middle or on the left side of the mouse pad, you get scroll issues, or your mouse will simply not work with the touch pad to click function. It's hard to get your hand all the way to the left with the mousepad in such a bad spot. So, Other than the fact that it has physically lasted so long. I would not buy this laptop again.

Bought this machine for playing my games when the grandkids are on the big machine. Quality seems very good, with good picture and basic amenities. Sound is very bad. Overall this machine does what I wanted it for.

This laptop is great when it comes to keeping things simple. Its easy to use even for those who aren't completely electronic savvy. Its also very light weight and easy to carry where ever you need it. I also find it fun to tweak the settings and it allows you to change many things to your likings.

I Purchased my laptop back in February 2010. It ran really good for 9 months until it one day locked up and I turned the computer off and it would'nt power on. I then called Toshiba technical support and I think I called India on their toll free number. Needless to say the gentleman's accent was so thick and I could hardly understand him. They said that the hard drive had crashed then they said the connection to the motherboard from the hard drive could have a short and then they finally said they think that the motherboard may have failed. Anyways I have been a PC/MAC tech more than 17 years now and the only thing that made any sense was the motherboard had failed. I have sent the computer to the depot because they said there isnt a place locally that could repair it in Charlotte NC under my factory warranty. I am waiting to hear what the exact issue is. But I do feel that if it is the motherboard it should have held up better than 9 months with gentle use.

This Toshiba Satellite L455D-S5976 was gifted to me when my home computer was stolen.  I must say, the size was bigger than expected and the keys rose above the key board which, i thought it to be pretty "old looking".  Has it proven me wrong!  This laptop has been a life saver.  It is easy to use and while i have had some adware problems, the service behind Toshiba's service center has been exemplirary.  I would have easily given it a 5 star but held back on it... cuz it lacks a built in webcam.  Other than that... for those of you looking for a simple, basic, get the job done type of laptop without spending loads of money on it... this one is definitely for you!  The bonus is that it is Satellite ready and hooking up to wi-fi is simple.  I would highly recommend this laptop model.  The retail cost for the laptop is also within reason.  I am very pleased with the product and hope that you too will find the satisfaction i have had with it.

Bought this lap top back in July of 2009.  While the computer on a whole is good, the constant updates from Toshiba are just a headache.  From the moment I took it out of the box and turned it on, update after update, and now over a year later, though the updates have slowed down considerably, I still get at least one a week.   As far as the computer itself, I feel it is a good computer for the money.  I take mine everywhere and never had any problems with processor speed or crashes.  I use my computer for work, so I needed a system with a lot of memory and fast processor speed, this unit delivered on both.  Had a little trouble at first getting everything set up, but now that all the kinks are out of it, I would say this is one of the best computers I have ever owned.   Looking to upgrade to a new computer by January, but will still use this one for business trips.    All in all, a good computer for work or play, and the updates will eventually go away.

I bought it at graduation because the price fit my budget, I never thought I would have had it this long. Just because it isn't as expensive as other laptops doesn't mean it isn't up to par and beyond, for that matter. I love my Toshiba, the screen is huge and I watch DVD's on it a lot. It has amazing storage space! And I oped for the additional 10 key. I love it and will continue buying Toshiba!
