Expected Better
Our main reason for purchasing the Toshiba SD-P1900 was for traveling in the car with our 2 year old daughter. Our family lives across the country approx a 4 hours flight away and we felt a DVD player for the little one was better than a more portable device which might end up getting destroyed. The main reason why we selected the Toshiba is it is one of the few portable players that it had the ability to play multiple coding formats, including MP3, DIVX, AVI and MPEG4. Given a variety of different codings for various entertainment outlets these days we felt the more the merrier. It also comes with a car charger and it also comes with AV output cables. We were amazed by how long the battery lasts, typically can make it the full flight on one charge. The picture is really decent for a 9 inch screen and sound is decent as well. We like the duel audio jacks so two people can listen at the same time. When the DVD player does work it's amazing. However, it is quite sensitive and found that it skips often and somewhat unreliable if playing a DVD that has a couple of scratches. The machine itself also is a tad loud for our taste and is pretty heavy to comparable models. For newer DVD's it's a great machine, but for used or older and overplayed DVD's you're going to get upset. Instead of saving a few bucks, we should have opted for a new device, it also would have been nice to get one with a screen that can rotate.
