I really like this recorder. Once the system was set up recording was easy with great quality. I found it simple to transfer old VHS tapes onto DVDs and also recorded directly onto DVDs from my DVR system.A couple of drawbacks: There is no tuner in the recorder so you have to have the TV on the channel you are recording. (You can turn the TV off while recording). Also in other reviews I've read most users said the set up was simple but I had a time of it trying to get the VCR, DVD Recorder and the Cable Box to all work together. My hook up is not like the manual states at all. I had to plug cables into different outputs to make it work.The HDMI cable (not included with the unit) gives very good digital quality for HD programming. It looks great with 1080i and 1080p. Recordable media supported: DVD+R,DVD+RW,DVD-R,DVD-RWAll in all I'm pleased with it, especially compared to Panasonic and RCA.

This DVD payer is all it says it is. Easy to set up and easy to use. Price was right and simple to find and buy. Plugged right into my sustem easily and now Icannwatch my movies again. I think this was a great but but not so sure if I would tell my friends to get this product. I had a hard time setting it up but I am also not very good at this sort of thing. I would have rather taken it straight out of the box and be able to plug it in and have it work. The player will play the dvd's and the pciture is nice (I know that has to do with the tv) but the system is nice. And once it is together it is easy to use. Very user friendly. I have netflix so I watch a lot of movies and I am always looking for something better. For the price I would tell people to use this if they want something a little extra they might want to try a different newer bigger product.

I have never owned a dvd-r before, and I am loving it. The Toshiba D-R400 is a great machine in that it is easy to use, the picture quality is great, you can add titles to your recordings, divide them by chapters if you chose, you can even display a slideshow of jpg images from your pc on your tv with this machine. I am really enjoying it. The only negative thing I can say, which is minor, is that the text on the remote doesn't show up very well in dim light. I notice this when I was trying to learn the remote, and my husband had the lights down lower during a movie, or when I am using the keys to add a title to a program. This is minor compared to the overall value of the product.

I have owned this dvd recorder for approximately three years now. It is still going strong. What I like about this player is that it's able to record and play dvds. It can play all types of dvd movies and it can record on dvd-r, dvd+r, dvd-rw, and dvd+rw discs. You get to choose whether you want to record the content in 1 hour, 2 hour, 4 hour, 6 hour, or 8 hour mode. Of course, the image quality will degrade as the time mode increases.  I always set it to record in the four-hour mode. The picture quality is awesome. The big bonous about this player is that it could also play divx or avi movie files. I burned the movies I downloaded from the web on to the dvdr disc. And then I just load it into this player. After that, I am able to watch the movies that I downloaded on my big screen tv. In addition, it could play mp3 song files and jpeg picture files too. However, seems to me that it doesn't read jpeg files burned on dvdr discs. It could read the ones burned on cdr discs only.  Not a big deal to me though, because it  serves my main purpose of playing movie dvds, divx avi files and recording tv shows.

Since I bought this Toshiba D-R400 DVD player, I don't regret buying it a single bit, I love it! With this dvd player, by far is the best dvd player I've every own. It has excellent picture quality, and even in the extended play mode it does. Setup was short and simple unlike other dvd player where you may need to take a class to learn how to set it up, haha, well not this one. One of the most easiest to setup. It also allows you too play all dvd types, great feature to have if you download or burn moives to a cd. And the great thing about this dvd player from toshiba when your watching a dvd, it almost never skips while plaing, great. Not to mention, I found it simple to transfer my old vhs tapes onto dvds and also recorded directly onto DVDs from my DVR system, great and easy to do. I love the simple controls, makes operation a breeze. And lastly the price fro the kind og quality the dvd player offers is very reasonably. Toshiba makes great products. A++

Tishiba DR-400 DVD Recorder Good product but difficult to set up, instructions are hard to follow. I like the results but the difficulty in getting there made it less enjoyable. After all the bother of the ser up the first one would not work so back to the retailer for a swap and now I can enjoy it, hopefully for many years.

When you get anything without spending cash, it's good.  But when I traded some frequent flyer miles in for this dvd recorder, I did not expect it to look soo good or work so well.  Satisfied?  Let's just say that I went and got another one!  'nuff said!
