Best HDTV For This Price
We have been fans of Toshiba for years, going back when TVs were giant boxes with cathode tubes and dinosaurs roamed the earth. We still have a Toshiba CRT in perfect condition from over 10 years ago and a 37" Regza LCD from over 4 years ago. We purchased this 1080p Toshiba over a year ago so that the 37" could be moved the bedroom and replace a dying Hitatchi tube TV. The price was remarkable, about half that of a Sony or Sharp and still offered an amazing picture and sound quality for high-definition signals. It was even an improvement on the 37" which was only 1080i maximum, so Blu-Ray or PS3 gaming was no longer obsolete. This TV is fantastic and has a ton of inputs currently allowing us to plug in a VCR, DVD player, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, a Playstation 3, and, for a brief time, a laptop. Some might not agree but I think the sound on a Toshiba set is above what you expect from a television, although it does need to be turned way up high for DVDs and video games. The biggest draw back I have had with this Toshiba, and my old 37", have been the contrast ratio. Most LCD TVs have some contrast problems, it's an inherent problem with all LCDs, other than LED-lit. Toshiba has some of the worst contrast ratios among the top brands and do not offer any sort of "dynamic contrast" mode that others try to sell you on. Most of the time Toshiba won't even tell you what their contrast ratio is, but it is lower than what other companies claim there's is. This makes dark colors come out poorer than they should appear. Toshiba has been a paradox in the electronics market for years: a company that makes quality products for a small price. As a bargain hunter this has set them apart from other companies for years, and their continued quality has kept me coming back to them.
