As a “Doctor Who” and 'Captain Jack Harkness' fan, I was thrilled to hear about the spin-off Torchwood. As I watched the first episode, I wasn't disappointed at all. It has the same amazing writing as the new “Doctor Who” series, complete with all the mind-blowing twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat as you watch.
The first season of “Torchwood" roped me in, but it had some very iffy moments. It seems to be consensus, even among diehard fans of the show, that the season one finale was way off the mark. It was confusing and over-dramatic, and I’m sad to say that...
review »After weeks and weeks of watching the ads for this show, I was prepared to be let down a little when it finally arrived. Not so! It was more than I expected: funnier, deeper, more intense. I was amazed. I've fallen in love with all the characters. I've been moved to tears, laughed out loud, kept on the edge of my seat. The stories are deeply human despite the science fiction trappings. So far the writing has been consistently good - clever without being snide, managing to explore the inner workings of all the characters without being melodramatic or sappy. To me, the theme that keeps cropping up...
review »The first episode, "Everything Changes" by Russell T. Davies, exists solely to introduce the two leads, Jack Harkness (John Barrowman) and Gwen Cooper (Eve Myles), and their little world of cool alien hardware; in terms of plot very little actually happens. Many sci-fi shows hang their first shows around an alien menace that's going to be a recurring thrill-maker; Torchwood's first E.T., called a Weevil (who wears a leather jacket because they only made the head) is the alien equivalent of a bottom-feeder. Superfluous to the story, it mainly inspires grousing about how unglamorous their work can...
review »This BBC science fiction drama is an action packed, and adult themed spin off of Doctor Who. It has been described by its writer as a British sci-fi paranoid thriller, , a cop show with a sense of humour. [...] Dark, wild and sexy. The show centers on a team of people, headed by Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman). They are the Cardiff branch of Torchwood, a group of people who study and hunt down alien life and related phenomena in Britian. Producing, acting, writing, and sets are all top quality. A must see for any fans of Jack Harkness or John Barrowman. Wonderfully edgy, but...
review »I'm not a huge Sci-Fi fan, but I absolutely love Torchwood. I'd love to go to Cardiff and check out all these bizarre characters that keep showing up there. A very interesting cast of characters. Great stories - interesting stories and plots. And I love me some John Barrowman - gay, straight, or bi-sexual - he's smoking hot! The writing and the cast makes you care about what happens to their characters. And isn't that what we watch television or a movie for - to be drawn into the story and to care about what happens to the characters - to urge them on, to want the happy ending or to...
review »This spin off of Doctor Who is probably the best spin off of any tv. show I have ever seen. They brought back Captain Jack Harkness (Played by John Barrowman) and gave us an entirely new group of characters to love. The episodes are action packed and the story lines are very well done. The special effects are brilliantly done and the direction is spot on. You will be on the edge of your seat from the very first episode. Torchwood is for a slightly older audiance than Doctor Who but I give it two thumbs up.
When I saw the previews for the series on BBC I thought Torchwood looked like it would be a good show. I was not only suprised but this is a GREAT show! It has a very believable story line with good characters. The episode this week had a little sex in it, but it usually doesn't have that much. My 8 year old daughter is into this show and we watch it together. This show is excitement and intrigue. If you love sci-fi check this show out-you won't be disappointed.
