I thought it may be fun to try a different kind of review-- a listing of my top film choices. As you will see, it is a pretty eclectic mix-- like me. I like all different kinds of things: drama, horror, asian film, comedy, kids movies, etc. (Action isnt necessarily my thing). I guess the bottom line is I appreciate good acting and the exploration and discussion of tough subject matter.

Here's my all time list (at least the ones I can think of from the top of my head)

1. American History X- Another exceptional performance by one of my favorites- Edward Norton. It is such a sad story centered around hatred, self discovery and gangs. A must see in my book. But, be prepared. It's heavy!

2. Murder in the First- Kevin Bacon is exceptional in this movie about a man that was tormented in Alcatraz. Definitely tugged at the heart strings.

3. Misery- Horror- Kathy Bates makes you think twice about trust and stardom. Yet, another exceptional and demented performance.

4. Dead Man Walking-Susan Serandan and Sean Penn make you think hard about your views on the dealth penalty.

5. Finding Neverland-Kate Winslet and Johnny Depp tell a great story about creativity, love and finding comfort with oneself.

6. Little Miss Sunshine- My pick for comedy. Absolutely loved the cast of characters and laughed harder than I have in years!!! (see my review)

7. Terms of Endearment-An oldie but goodie. I cried as a kid. I cried as a teenager, and I cry even harder as a Mom. A wonderful story even if it is dated. Great cast too.

8. Princess Bride-I just recently saw this movie again and it reminded me what a magical fairytale this is for both parents and kids alike. Very well done! (remember the little boy from the Wonder Years? He is the kid in the movie! And, of course, my favorite Westley. He was my pretend boyfriend in high school!)

9. Finding Nemo- Ellen Degeneres as Dorey the forgetful fish-- Enough said. A great G rated movie. It is perhaps my favorite kids movie... and I see a lot of them.

10. It's really a tie. While I dont think all of the films are exceptional, I love them for their Asian influence and natural beauty. For example, The Last Samurai (with Tom Cruise), Anna and the King (with Jodie Foster & Chow Yun Fat) and Memoirs of a Geisha. Did I happen to mention that I LOVE Chow Yun Fat and Ken Watanabe?!

I thought your list was ok, but I agreed with you on Finding Nemo, Finding Neverland, and Little Miss Sunshine.

American History X is an awesome and disturbing tale. Definitely not for the faint of heart.

I haven't seen all of these. "Misery" was very well done. "Finding Neverland" is one of my top favorites. I love how all the proceeds went to the children's hospital in London. Great review, Jolie.

Hi Jolie!
I must agree with Misery, Princess Bride and Little Miss sunshines as top choices! We actually picked up Misery the other day for $5 - can't wait to watch it again!

I just recently rented The Princess Bride also and it was good as I remember it. I just love the beginning with the three "bad" guys. The script between them is so funny.

Thanks, Jolie! I had a blast and it was time for a pic change. Nice review! I've seen a lot of these, but I've also missed a fair few. I'll definitely be adding some of them to my "to watch" list!

Great list! I didn't see Dead Man Walking so I would have to put in its place Forrest Gump. I like a lighter comedy now and then.

Nice list! Mine would have Little Miss Sunshine at #1. I love the feel good movies that cause perma-grin hours after you leave the theater.

I made up my own list of top ten a few weeks ago, and I find my top ten keeps changing! although I did go back and forth on Terms of Endearment. When it came out I was 18 or 19, and I loved it then, but now as a mom, I understand and love it even more. I always refer to the part at the beginning while the baby is sleeping quietly in the crib, and Shirley MacLaine shakes and crib to start crying, then says that's better. I so understand that as a mom.

Great idea Jolie. I think I might try my hand at a list. Did you list them in ascending or desending order?

I enjoyed your list quite a bit. I would agree with most of your choices. I can't comment on Murder in the First or Misery, but I've seen the rest. I offer one correction. The movie with Jodie Foster is actually caled Anna and the King. The King and I is the musical by Rogers and Hammerstein that starred Yul Brenner and Deborah Kerr.

I didn't find "Little Miss Sunshine" as funny as everyone else did... I'd substitute "Sleeper" by Woody Allen there. And I'd find a place to slot in "Dances With Wolves," "Schindler's List" and "Terminator 2," but you have some excellent choices. I could go on and on... how about "The Birds," "Titanic," "Big" and "The Green Mile"? Hmmm... maybe I should do my own list!
