Although these are my top 10 favorite movies, they are in no particular order within the top 10 since that would vary too much based on the day and my mood. Here goes:
1. A League of Their Own. As a little girl growing up, I watched this constantly with my father and always wished I had more athletic ability...or at least looked like Geena Davis. I can still sing all the words to their song and would recommend this to anyone who's looking for a feel-good, family friendly, female inspired movie.
2. I Am Sam. My boyfriend refuses to watch this with me, however, the first time I saw it I laughed and cried more in that time span then I thought imaginable. I was laughing through my tears at some points. I thought everyone's performance was amazing, touching and heartbreaking. I even liked Michelle Pfeiffer in it.
3. Young Frankenstein. Definately a classic and I'm up for watching it at any point in time. I love all the "hidden" humor. "Walk this way" inspired Aerosmith and it certainly makes me giggle.
4. Across the Universe. I love it for more than just the music, although who can argue with the Beatles? I haven't enjoyed a movie in the theater in awhile and I thought this one was just perfect. It was just quirky enough to make it a musical, but still mostly believable. I can't wait to purchase this when it comes out on DVD. I've already bought the soundtrack and believe the covers of the songs are some of the best I've heard (esp. Blackbird and Revolution).
5. Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I loved the books so much and expected to be disappointed by the movies, but instead was quite pleasantly surprised. I was only upset that Trillian wasn't more beautiful- I imagine Douglas Adams would have wanted her to be.
6. American History X. Powerful, fascinating, and consuming.
7. Edward Scissorhands. I could probably name most of Johnny Depps movies as my favorites, but I'm limiting myself to this one. I could watch this every day and not get tired of it.
8. O Brother Where Art Thou? Hysterical and the songs will get stuck in your head for days!
9. Little Miss Sunshine. I loved this movie! I adored the little girl and laughed so hard at the end that it hurt.
10. Children of Men. There wasn't much of advertising for this movie, but it's definately worth watching. The cinematography is interesting, the plotline is though-provoking and it is both funny and sad at the same time. I fell in love with the old man in the forest. I actually watched the special extras for this film, which is something I never do, but I would recommend it just so you can learn how they created "the baby."
Now that I've talked about them, I need to go watch some of them again.
