About Tom's of Maine Natural Mouthwash, Spearmint
I received a kit filled with Tom's of Maine products as a free gift for spending a billion dollars on a website and just started to use the products. The first I tried was this mouthwash. I had previously used (and discarded) Tom's of Maine Toothpaste because the taste was so bad. I want to be a green girl, an all natural product user, but wow. Give me something to work with here. This mouthwash is alcohol free and contains aloe vera and witch hazel for ... some reason. The spearmint flavor, which I smelled but didn't taste, is natural as well. The mouthwash is light amber and smells like medicine or something you would come across in a hospital and be forced to drink for some sadistic testing purposes.
The mouthwash really tastes bad. I got no tingle and no burst of freshness. Just a really strong worse than medicinal taste that almost gagged me and I am not one to gag on stuff that tastes gross. I spit it out almost immediately. I gave it a second chance to see if it would leave my breath fresh if I used it longer. I took a gulp and did the whole mouthwash dance and spit it out. My mouth tasted nasty. Seriously nasty. I am sure my breath was NOT what people would consider pleasant. After a minute or two, I relented and brushed my teeth and felt much fresher. I wanted to love this but I can't stand the taste. Perhaps the other flavors taste better but I can tell you that spearmint is really bad. I won't use it again and I sure know my kids and husband won't. I saw on Tom's website that some people use this as an astringent for the face and as a cure for athlete's foot. Alrighty then...
My Viewpoint
I respect Tom of Maine who wants to use only natural products and who markets them to us. I respect anyone who can get into the all natural; lifestyle. I try but I can't use this mouthwash just because it's natural. Surely, there is one that is tolerable out there. This isn't. Ugh. I can't even describe how bitter and harsh the taste is. For me, natural has to be tolerable. I give this 2 stars. I am not recommending it because I don't think anyone can stand the taste but by all means give it a try if you want and write a review here and let me know what you thought. Maybe my taste buds are intolerant or off or something.
