For a long time I wanted everything I used to be better for the environment and healthier for my body. That's when I decided to give Toms toothpaste. Honesty, I wasn't very impressed. First of all you can only buy this toothpaste from specialty stores and that means out of the way trips to buy toothpaste. Also, this toothpaste is rather costly and there are not many coupons available with this brand. Mostly I didn't like the taste. It tasted a lot like straight baking soda. Most toothpastes have a minty taste but this kind of just tasted like thick baking soda paste. I could hardly get through brushing my teeth. The texture alone was a little disturbing. I could not even finish the tube before I threw this product away. Although it was natural and possibly it was better for the environment, I did not enjoy using the product. I also didn't think that this product freshened my breath like my previous toothpaste I was using.

Tom's Of Maine produces a great line of natural toothpastes and other health care products. I love the Anti Plaque Toothpaste because I have a higher calcium concentration in my saliva. This means that if plaque stays on my teeth for too long, it quickly turns into tartar. I used to go to my dentist for monthly cleanings. She recommended using prescription-strength products, but I wasn't a fan of many of the ingredients found in these "stronger" products. Tom's of Maine Anti Plaque Toothpaste is strong, safe and effective. I have truly noticed a difference in the plaque levels on my teeth since I began using it. My dentist has noticed too, though I haven't been able to convert her yet. I use Tom's with my two and a half year old son as well. One night, my husband was brushing my son's teeth while I was taking care of our new baby. He accidentally put a more well-known brand of toothpaste (his) on my son's brush. I ran into the bathroom when I heard crying. Baffled, my husband couldn't figure out what was wrong until I showed him the tube of toothpaste. Even my little boy prefers the natural stuff!

I didn't think that this product was especially effective at plaque reduction, even over time I didn't notice any difference in my teeth. The texture was unusual also, it seemed slightly slick to me. It tends to foam a lot as well, which I find unpleasant, mostly because it can trigger my gag reflex. The flavor is OK, although like so many other toothpastes on the market labeled natural, it doesn't quite taste like it contains all natural ingredients. As with comparable products, I found this one to be rather strongly scented, although not so badly that I couldn't use it at all. In all fairness, these points may pertain to my personal health issues, as I'm sensitive and/or allergic to many common food and drug additives which don't bother others at all. Fluoride free is good. I just don't think that it makes this product worth it to me to buy again, or that it justifies the premium price.

I bought the Tom's of Maine Anti Plaque Toothpaste looking for a good natural alternative to other toothpastes, but it was very disappointing. It did not seem to have any effect on my teeth other than just brushing, so I tried just brushing with water for a couple days and it had the same effect. There was almost no foaming so I had to use a lot more toothpaste each time I brushed. The taste was also weird, like an odd mint trying to cover up chalk, but it was not very strong and it did not stay in my mouth long. I do not like to waste, but I did not finish using the tube before buying another kind of toothpaste. The only thing I would recommend this toothpaste for would be for extra brushing during the day when you just want to clean out your mouth a bit. This may also be a good transition toothpaste for a child going from kid toothpaste to adult. I will not be buying Tom's of Maine toothpaste for myself again, but may consider it for my children.

I switched to Tom's of Maine toothpaste wanting a natural alternative to normal toothpaste. The taste of Tom's takes a little getting used to - but now I love it. My only gripe is with the tube the toothpaste comes in. It's a metal tube and my first roll split down the side - causing toothpaste to go everywhere. I contacted the company and they indicated that a toothpaste "roller" solves this problem. I've been using the roller with my new tube and it works great! I love the toothpaste - it tastes great, cleans well and is natural.

My wifeand I are really aiming to have natural, and evironmentally friendly products in our home and **Tom's of Maine Anti Plaque Toothpaste** is one of those products. I love that the ingredients are things I know and understand. Someone can pick up this product and have confidence about what is going into their body. **Tom's of Maine Anti Plaque Toothpaste **works great too. Your teeth feel clean and natural. There is not strange residue or aftertaste that we think many other types of toothpaste can leave. This product fits all those basic natural needs but does not appeal to me for daily use. The taste or flavor while brushing is not as extravagent as some other brands. I owuld recommend shopping around for something enjoyable if you have to use it twice a day. I recommend homes use this instead of standard brands of toothpaste but don't expect to enjoy it as much. Perhaps alternative falvors or other natural and organic brands are better.

So natural toothpaste and works great and when i first tried it it i made sure i brought this toothpast again. I saw this in a health food store with my friend and my friend said what is this, i picked it up and i held it and read the box and it read Toms of Maine Anti Plaque Toothpaste and I said what a joke. My friend said since i want to judge why don't I try it out, I said okay i will get it, when I got home I ate a hamburger, fries,apple pie, and a pop and when i was done i tried the toothpaste out. When i was brushing my i had this funny feeling in my mouth but as i continued to brush i noticed that all the food i ate was coming out and my teeth started getting cleaner and i noticed a big diffrence in my teeth and my mouth.I called my friend and i told her you have to try this toothpaste out and she said why. I told her that the toothpaste really worked and it is very healthy for your gums i wold recommend this to anybody.

When I buy toothpaste, I look for the all natural ones that don't have a lot of artificial ingredients or fluoride.  I have read a lot of negative things about ingesting fluoride, and while it is good for your teeth, it is bad for your body.  I buy my Tom's of Main toothpaste at Trader Joe's for a much cheaper price than at Whole Foods or any other store.  I am very happy.  I like the flavor and my teeth haven't had any problems since using it.  I love that it is very low in toxicity and it's a name that I can trust.  They have many different flavors and also come in a children's formula.   I use this toothpaste three times a day, and supplement with flossing once at nighttime.  I use an electric spin toothbrush and have not had a cavity or toothache in many years.  It is really not that much more expensive than the regular toothpastes they sell at the drugstore, and whatever difference in price is well worth getting a more natural healthier alternative.  Highly recommend!

Tom's of Maine Anti Plaque Toothpaste... why does this product exist? I brought some home because it was free with a deal at Walgreens. I ended up throwing it out. It doesn't do anything to clean your teeth! I guess if you were allergic to flouride, this might be the best alternative you had. then again, you'd be allergic to tap water, so I guess you'd have other problems. But you'd be better off using just baking soda and salt or something. This stuff tastes awful. It is gritty and slimy. it doesn't get your teeth clean at all. They feel bad and taste bad. It's completely unpleasant to use. I can't figure out why someone would use this or buy this. I actually threw out two unopened tubes of it because I couldn't even see donating it to someone. Much like the other Tom's of Maine products (deodorant, mouthwash), it doesn't work at all. I'm all for natural, but not when it's just a way of making money off people's fears. yuck.

You might pick up a tube of Tom's toothpaste, look at the price and think about putting it right back down but wait- you will not be disappointed! Lets start with taste: Y-U-M. Better tasting that any other mainstream toothpaste I have ever tried- and I've tried quite a few. There is no baking soda taste and it leaves your breath smelling very fresh! My teeth even seem to feel cleaner than usual after using this toothpaste. Next, lets talk ingredients. Read them: very little ingredients, to begin with. It's not jam packed full of chemicals and nastiness. Also, Tom's has FLUORIDE-FREE options. Score! Please look up 'the dangers of fluoride' on your favorite search engine. You won't believe your eyes. So, my family and I are staying away from fluoride and this is one way that we do so. So in closing, this toothpaste is a great deal. You're choosing more natural ingredients and less harsh chemicals. It's worth the extra money!
