Easy to use, transitional sippy cup

4

My daughter really likes this. It's simple for her to grab a hold of and drink from. The grip/handle design was designed with little hands in mind so that children can use them one or two handed and it doesn't wobble around on them. I like it because its easy to clean, keeps that delicious beverage from ending up on the floor, and is something my child can use to become more independent without fear of breaking it. I like that they come in a variety of colors, to make it easy to have a system of use (this juice is in this colored top, this color is this childs cup). And of course being BPA free means there is less to worry about. The only downside I've found is that the lids/tops aren't available for sale without the bottle attached even though the lid is compatible with the bottles I already have. If I could buy them individually I definitely would purchase more to augment the fleet of bottles we have.

Tommee Tippee's weaning cup - Great for transitions!

4

As a first time new mom, I highly recommend the Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature weaning cup! I've been using the Closer to Nature bottles (5oz and 9oz) for all of my son Mason's feedings since he was born. At 5-1/2 months old, he is sitting up on his own for long periods of time and has, in recent weeks, began taking greater interest in the world around him. He's grabbing at things and is able to pick up and hold items with a pretty strong grasp. I just started him on solids a couple weeks ago, and though I have no idea what I'm doing most of the time as a new mom, I figure the introduction of the sippy cup is just around the corner, as well. So when I went to Babies-R-Us the other day, I began looking into the various brands of sippy cups and noticed that Tommee Tippee had a line of transitions cups. They offer several different cups, in different sizes, all stating they are spill proof. I ended up purchasing the weaning cup (which is labeled for 6mo+) and 2 other transition cups that they offer (for when he gets a little older. **What I *LOVE *about this weaning cup: ** **1.) It is essentially one of their 5oz bottles (which is what Mason is used to) with handles.** **2.) It comes with a sippy cup top, but also fits a regular bottle top (with nipple), allowing for an extra step in the transition process. ** What I've done for the last 3 days is offer Mason his formula in this weaning cup/bottle using his regular bottle top (with a size 2 nipple). Rather than holding the bottle for him, I sit with him, hand him the bottle, allow him to feed himself, and I assist as needed. Being the piglet he is, once he grasps the handles, the bottle is in his mouth in a matter of seconds and he's chugging away!!! He was clumsily attempting to hold his own bottles prior to this, but the handles make it a much simpler task for him. My next step will be to switch to the size three nipple (which allows for greater flow) for several weeks, then introduce the sippy cup lid when the time comes. Since he is already getting the hang of holding the handles, the transition to the larger cups should be a breeze! My only complaint, about the Tommee Tippee bottles in general, is that their shape (while unique, modern, and eye-catching) allows for liquid to get trapped in the curves. So as he nears the end of the bottle, or even when there is an ounce or so left, I have to tip the bottle completely upside down to get all of the formula into the nipple part to keep him from sucking air before the bottle empties. This has always been an issue, not just as he's holding his bottle. I would definitely recommend this weaning cup/bottle for anyone who is already using the Tommee Tippee line of products!!!

My daughter is 7 months old and since birth has been using the Tommee Tippee 9 oz bottles, pacifiers, and recently was presented the weaning cup. She is a breastfed baby, however I was unable to produce enough milk, so supplementing was neccesary. To avoid nipple confusion, I have been nursing, then giving supplement from the bottle. She also uses the Tommee tippee pacifiers. I wanted to use a cup that stayed in the Tommee tippee family. This cup is smaller than most, making it easier to hold. My daughter grabbed the cup and immediatly put it in her mouth despite not being able to hold her own bottle. She noticed immediatly the tip was not silicone. She choose to chew on it rather than suck. With practice, she will learn to use this cup. The cup disesembles into 5 pieces that are all diswasher safe. My only complaint is that the stopper is a 2 part stopper, making it an extra thing to wash. Same with the handle. It's not attached and is therefor a seperate piece to lose. On a side note, if you are trying to get your baby to hold his/her own cup this cup will also fit with the 9 oz bottle nipple.

So this is marketed as a beginner cup. I purchased this when my breastfed baby suddenly decided to refuse the bottle at the sitter's around six to seven months. It is promoted as being "most like breast"....well, she was not impressed! First, the spout is difficult for a younger infant to use. It's kind of hard with a softer, rubbery coating over it. I didn't feel like the design made for a good transition from bottle/breast to cup. Second, it has an annoying valve system. It can get stuck and be difficult to pry out and clean. FInally (and the most terribly annoying for me) is that the handles are fixed to the base. When you put the lid on you have to figure just the perfect sweet spot or else the spout does not end up centered between the two handles. I guess the pros would be that it does have the two handles, so it's easy for little ones to hold, and it has a wider nipple type area. Overall I feel this cup was not worht the money (it's kind of overpriced).

My daughter is six months old and she is just starting to learn how to use a sippy cup.  I have some playtex ones already and they seemed to me to be so big and cumbersome for a beginner.  I saw these at babies r us and decided to give them a try.  They hold five ounces, so they are smaller than a regular standard sippy cup.  The handles come all the way down to the bottom of the cup so I think when she gets the hang of it they will be easier for her to hold in general.  She has only used it twice.  The only drawback to them is that if you don't get the lid screwed on just right, they leak.  It leaked on her today, but once I fixed the lid it seemed to work fine.  They come in blue, green, and pink.  I wish they had a yellow one.  The spout is soft and flexible compared to other sippy cups and I think that will make it easier for her to learn to drink from it compared to the regular sippy cups I have.

The worst sippy cup my daughter had!

My husband and I saw this sippy cup separated out from all of the others. We thought we would give it a try. The handles were really appealing and the concept of "closer to nature" really sold us. I really liked that the lid was a simple screw on cover and the container was transclucent so I could see the liquid directly.  Unfortunately, this sippy cup leaks BIG TIME! Aurelia didn't like the mouthpiece and couldn't get any liquid to flow (except what was leaking all over her lap)!!!! Also,  there are four parts when you are washing this sippy cup: the cup, the handle, the mouthpiece/ cover, and if you turn the cover over there is also a little piece that comes off that is supposed to regulate the flow of liquid.  After I washed that - it was so hard to try to put it back on that the cup leaked even worse.  I would never recommend this sippy cup to any parent!
