Most HelpfulBottom-Line: In the short period of time I have used the TomTom One XL-S I have become enamored of it and what it can do.
The TomTom One XL-S is an update to the TomTom One XL; the XL-S brings text-to-speech capabilities to the table. This means that instead just a visual display of directions the...

Most HelpfulThe TomTom ONE XL is easy to use, easy to see, and easy to hear, but lacks a lot of features that make a GPS truly useful. If this is your first GPS unit and you use it primarily to go from one address to another, you'll probably be happy. But if you've ever used a Garmin unit, you'll quickly learn...

The tiny little portable unit is lightweight, and easy to remove and reinstall in the car. Big plus. You can also choose the voice you want to hear (and some of them talk faster than others). My favorite feature is the fact that the Tom Tom tells you which LANE to get into before an exit comes up. Why have to guess? Just relax and follow directions. You can also reset the screen for day or night, so that it's easy to read but not disturbing.

We bought the TomTom One XL and have been very happy with it. I've checked out one of the Garmin's and I feel the TomTom has more destinations and cities than the Garmin, which is why we chose it.
We had some problems with our unit (there was something wrong with it from the factory, it seems) so we had to call the customer support several times, and they could not have been better. I think the great customer service people is probably one of the best things about TomTom. Every single person we spoke to was knowledgeable and very calming and able to walk us through everything, which...
read full review »I had a very frustrating experience with this product. I bought one and on the way home, I was able to use it. It worked great! When I got home and connected it to my computer is when all of the trouble started.
All of a sudden I could not access any of the menus. I disconnected it from my computer, re-started my computer, tried it all again. Nothing worked. I called Tech Support and an hour later, the person I spoke to suggested that I take it back to the store I bought it from and get a different one. I did just that.
I exchanged that one for the exact same model. In the car...
read full review »The Tom Tom's Maps are incredibly INACCURATE and consistently wrong. The points of interest don't include normal things like Auto Parts stores, grocery stores, etc. The directions it provides are consistently incorrect. For the expense, it is not worth it. The I-phone or blackberry has better directions and maps.
The calculated arrival time never takes into account your traveling speed.
Real-time traffic is a monthly fee.
I have a love hate relationship with our TomTom One XL. We got it originally because it was a great price and comparable to the Garmin. The first few times we used it it was amazing and got us exactly where we needed to go. Then, it decided it hated us. It would lead us into weird directions and try to make us turn on streets that didn't exist. It has problems finding its satellite most days, and that became a real issue for us during the recent hurricane. Most days it works fine, but more times than not, it takes us on random detours.

Cool little navigation device. Pretty easy to use, even my 60+ yr old parents can use.

My Tom Tom One XL was a gift. I never wanted or needed a GPS. Or so I thought. I love that I can choose the voice that talks to me. It's lightweight, so If I want to walk around the city, I can take it with me and not get lost. I did that in NYC and thought it was the greatest.
When I first got it, I found myself testing it. Typing in locations I already knew how to get to, to see if it sent me the most practical way. so far so good. It was when I was going those long distances, that I found it taking me off the beaten path. I did get lost a few times, but after finding my bearings...
