I have two TOTOM ONE's; one 2nd generation and one 3rd generation.
I bought my first TOMTOM ONE for about 250 USD and it was the best I had bought in years. It has saved us a lot of time and agony. Before we had the TOTOM we used road and city maps and we quite often got lost, especially in the cities. Since we have the TOMTOM we do not get lost anymore which has contributed to a better relationship between me and my wife.
Before I bought my 2nd generation TOTOM One, I compared the devices that were on the market in the same price range from Magellan and Garmin. Our choice was based upon the ease of operation of the device. My wife had no problem operating the TOTOM, where she had lots of problems understanding the Man Machine Interface of the other devices.
Thus, when I saw a one time deal for the TOMTOM one 3rd generation for just 88 dollars I could not resist buying it becauseĀ one can share the changes to the maps with others and with that in theory always have an updated map.
I think my expectations were a bit too high. The 3rd generation TOMTOM is not as good as the 2nd generation with respect to the accuracy. Also the sharing of changes is as good as the usercommunity putting in their changes. I should however not complain given the price I have paid for that one.
If we go on travel, we always take one of the TOMTOM's with us and with that we can put it to use in all of the rentals that we had. I have also used it while on foot or riding the bicycle. The battery gives enough autonomy for a couple of hours.
Comparing my 2nd generation device with my 3rd generation device, I find my 2nd generation more reliable, though that may be caused by the set of maps that are in there.
