Tom Tom One 130
All GPS units map your travel to a distination. This unit tells you when to turn or keep right/left on the freeway. On the freeway it shows the exit number you'll need to take, your estimated time of arrival, travel time, and distance to go. You can choose several voices and languages. If you prefer to travel slower routes, say under 25MPH for any reason, you can do so. It does not have text to voice so does not speak the street name, just "turn left" or "turn right". The dash mount works great and the unit can easily slip into your pocket so you can nav on the go.
The tomtom web site does have a place where you can submit map updates, but it is definitely for someone with more time or tech savvy than me. The place you may run into problems finding streets or suburbs where there is a lot of new developments and new streets added in the past year or so.
There not enough local Points of Interest built into the maps for my liking. I have downloaded a few extras ones online which was pretty easy. But I still feel I'm missing some local spots. When trying to locate my nieces home in a nearby town, the street wasn't even on the map, even thought I had downloaded the latest update. She said it was a new area so eventually it should show up on the map.
Overall I like the unit, it is reliable, easy to use, has many great features. Includes USB connection and car charger. We use it all the time. But, I do wish there were more local Points of Interest (shops, restaurants, thrift stores, etc) and more recent street updates - I can't imagine trying to keep the data base totally up to date for all of North America!
