Toast has 2 locations in Chicago, one in Lincoln Park and one in Bucktown. After at least 4 attempts to get a table at Toast Lincoln Park, I had almost given up. Finally, this past Saturday I found myself willing and able to wait for an hour to eat brunch with 3 other friends. The host was soooo kind and funny. He was pretty blunt about his frustration with the wait too but encouraged us to give them a shot. We were told an hour wait but were seated within about 40 minutes. Sweet! The experienced continued to improve from there.

After being seated, we were quickly greeted with coffee by our waitress. This was not just any coffee...it's Julius Meinl, gourmet coffee from Vienna, Austria. This brand of coffee is just plain glorious, very smooth and savory blends. Our waitress kept it coming too. The four of us were jacked on caffeine by the time we left Toast. What better way to start a day of shopping on Michigan Avenue?

Now, back to the food at Toast... I was torn between ordering the Pesto Scrambled Eggs or the Pancake Orgy. (Descriptions provided below compliments of Toast's menu)

Pesto Scramble eggs w/ tomato, prosciutto & gruyere w/ fresh homemade pesto served w/ potatoes & choice of toast
$8

Pancake Orgy one each: apple cinnamon, lemon poppy seed, banana pecan topped w/ raspberry granola, yogurt, fresh fruit and drizzled w/ honey   $9

I decided to bypass a potential diabetic coma and went for the scrambled eggs. The eggs were cooked perfectly. The prosciutto and cheese mixed in were again, glorious.

My friends were AMAZED with their entree choices as well. The Eggs Benedict was very wonderful. My foodie friend was blown away by her B.E.L.T. sandwich (thick cut applewood smoked bacon served with over-medium egg, mixed baby greens and tomato on a multigrain bolo w/ house potatoes.) Then my chow hound friend was satisfied with the Smoked Salmon Omelet (smoked salmon, dill havarti, red onions, capers and tomato.)

The final bill was around $55 for 4 people... not too bad for a phenomenal gourmet brunch. I will be returning to Toast many, many times in the future.

"Jacked on caffeine" made me recall the time I was totally the opposite - tipsy on vino rojo after eating at Los Manolos in Granada, Spain. Great review, by the way!
