Tin Man mini-series 2007 —

I just finished watching all 6 hours of the Tin Man mini-series on the SciFi channel.  I DVRed it as soon as I heard about it because I love the Wizard of Oz and figured I would like this too.

Tin Man is a crazy remake of the Wizard of Oz.  We have similar characters and storylines, but the over all story is way different.  First there is DG, a waitress who is having crazy dreams about a beautiful woman with lavender eyes who warned  her a storm was coming.  DG is played by Zooey Deschanel who I recognized from Failure to Launch and The New Guy.  She did a great job as the edgy girl with an attitude who also had a good heart.  Other characters quickly come into play such as Glitch played by Alan Cumming who is a take on the Scarecrow, Raw who is a take on the Cowardly Lion and then there is the Tin Man.  In this modernized story, the Tin Man is called such because he is a cop, not because he is tin.

All characters in the story are still strange and interesting, but they are more human than before.  The only two names I recognized are the ones I listed above, although a few of the other characters did look slightly familiar.  The world DG visits is called the O-Z, and it is more realistic than the Oz we all know and love.  There is still plenty of magic involved in the story, but the setting seems like a place that could actually exist.  I really enjoyed the different take on all the characters, as well as the new characters that were thrown in.

This story is darker than the Wizard of Oz and the word strange continues to come to mind.  However, I enjoyed it overall.  They took one of my favorite movies, added modern aspects as well as some other strange aspects to make it worth watching.  I got into it right from the beginning and ended up watching the whole thing in one sitting because it was so interesting.  There is no humor to be found in the story, just adventure.  The story overall was interesting for me, but not enough that I would want to watch it over and over.  I would watch it again, but only if some time passes.  Even though it's similar to the The Tenth Kingdom in that it's a fantasy with realistic magic, it's different because I couldn't get enough of that mini-series, but I can get enough of this one.  I was drawn into the Tenth Kingdom because I was very entertained by all aspects of it.  Alternatively, I stayed interested in this story more because I wanted to find out the mystery behind the story.  It was a pretty good mystery and I could not have predicted much of this movie.

I would watch this with adults or teens, but probably not kids.  Even though it is a familiar story, I doubt kids would enjoy it.  It's just too strange!  I am sure they will replay it soon, so DVR it and Enjoy!!
