I've always been hard on watches. I don't think I've even had one that lasted a full year other than my Timex Expeditions. I have two of them, and they both have held up.
Something about the electricity level in my body messes up some of the electronic watches. I discovered this when I got one of the first digitals out on the market. My Granny got that for me. I was thrilled. It worked a week. We took it back. It stopped working again. The jewelry store man said that some folks can't wear them due to high electricity. So, I went back to an old wind watch.
With wind watches and then some newer digital watches, I was OK but was hard on the watches. I would crack the faces or lose the backs. Scratches. Whew. I got loads of those. I ragged out watches really fast. I could plan on at least one per year.
I saw the Timex Expedition and thought it looked sturdy. Also, I knew Timex had a reputation for holding up - "Takes a Licking and Keeps on Ticking." I decided to give the Expedition a try.
My first Expedition is about 5 years old now and my new one is a little over a year old. The models are similar from year to year. The old one has a different calendar view. I like it better than the new one which has a magnifying glass over the date. I have to hold the watch just right to read the date.
I do have a nice dressy watch too. It's hard to put on. And, it does not light up in the dark. That's one thing I really love about the Expedition. I can press the wind set piece. It lights up at night. If I wear my nicer watch, I really miss that feature.
Since I teach, it's also good to have a larger face and numbers. I can glance down and read this watch unlike most watches made for women. With my dress watch, I have to put it right up to my face. I can see the Expedition all the way down on the desk.
If you need a sturdy watch, then I would suggest Timex Expedition. It's the only one I've ever been able to keep long enough to replace batteries. I've also replaced bands. It's easy to get the replacements for this model, because they keep making it - with minor changes.
