The Timex Easy Trainer is a great basic heart monitor. Although I go to the gym most days, I will never train for a marathon or Ironman competition, and just wanted to know my heart rate. The Easy Trainer provides an easy and inexpensive way to get the heart rate during exercise. Although I was not aware of it at the time of purchase, the machines (treadmill) at the gym pick up the rate from the chest strap, even without the watch portion. You can also use it as a regular watch or time your workout, though those are less important to me. The watch seems substantial, though it is mostly plastic. The band may be replaceable but probably not worth it,and the battery may be able to be replaced but looks like it would be some work.
