I have to give Time Warner a big thumbs down.  Unfortunately, there is no other choice for broadband cable internet service.  I pay $44.95/mo only to lose my connection every 10 mins.  When you call customer service they merely reset your modem.

The other gripe I have is that they do absolutely nothing for loyal customers.  New customers are paying only $29.95 for service and we loyal users can't catch a break.  No deals, nothing.  I work from home and require a broadband connection in order to connect with my employer so dial up and DSL is not an option.

I will celebrate the day Verizon FIOS comes to the area!!

Hi, Bob. Thanks for the Comment. I wrote this a while ago - Time Warner has since sent me a new modem and the speeds are much quicker. (Too bad it took them several months to respond - but hey, what can you do!)

As for DSL - lots of problems with it in this area. My mom has it and experiences all sorts of issues. Verizon isn't an option in this area - we have Frontier which in itself is a whole-nother issue :)

Thanks again and have a great day!

Is DSL not fast enough for you? When I had DSL, my typical download speed was 650 kbps -- not blazing but pretty good, I thought. DSL from Verizon cost $35-40. Another option is an AirCard from Verizon or Sprint. Sometimes called "EVDO service," an AirCard gives you completely wireless high-speed Internet. If you go on a trip, you can take the card with you and get high-speed Internet on the beach. Connection speeds are a mixed bag, but I get anywhere from 300 kbps to 1 Mbps with my AirCard. You can get a router to plug it in at home, so that the family can share the service. Price is around $60 per month. Sprint's EVDO network is larger and faster than Verizon's, but Verizon just may have faster service in your area. The fastest version of EVDO is called "Rev. A," so be sure to ask for that if you do check this option out. Good luck!
