When I saw the commercial for this product, I thought it was a gross exaggeration of what the product could do. My husband has a little witticism. I won't put it here, but it basically means that you spilled something all over yourself like my wife would. I try hard, but there always seems to be a splatter, or a drip. It's frustrating. This Tide-to-go pen is inexpensive, so when I bought a pair of white capri pants, I bought a pen to go with them.
Surprisingly, it works! I've splattered spaghetti sauce, and gravy, and soup, and various beverages upon my person. You just dab the pen to release the solution and rub the hard pen tip over the stain. If you use enough solution and rub hard enough, you may not be able to get the stain to go completely away, but it will be so faded no one will notice. If you wash promptly, the stain should go away. All of mine did.
I used mine on dribbles, and drips and splatters. It's not meant for a big stain. Look at the size of it. You would use the entire contents of the pen on a big stain. I got ball-point ink out one time, but stains like grease, and blood, and grass which are challenges for any laundry product, may not fade using the Tide-to-go pen. I would also think carefully about what fabric you use it on. If you have a stain on a delicate fabric that you know your local dry cleaner can get out, don't risk ruining an expensive garment for the convenience. I have only used it on cotton, cotton blends, polyester, denim and nylon.
Also, the stain must be fresh. It doesn't work on already dried stains. I always keep a pen in my purse, and one in the glove compartment. I got mine quite a while ago and it is now time for a new one. I hope by now they have either had new packaging that eliminates the cap, or the cap stays on tighter. I gave up on the last one in my purse. The cap never stayed on so I just left it off. There probably won't be enough pressure on the tip to release any solution, but it's annoying nonetheless.
This is a great little product and well worth the money. I've saved many shirts and - yes - the capri pants with this pen.
