TiVo is great!

4

The 180-hour TiVo DVR is the best TiVo DVR system that I have owned and used thus far. I love pretty much everything about this device. First off, it is extremely easy to use. This was also helped by how simple it was to set up the device and connect it to all the other devices I needed it connected to. Moreover, the device is extremely intuitive to use and works very quickly. Clearly, the best thing about it is the space and how many shows / movies / etc that it can hold - which is a ton. It will take me a while to fill this thing up because I am very picky, so I like that I can keep things I record fo ra very long time. The only downside that I can truly admit to is that TiVo itself is a fairly expensive service and that there are other comparable services that are less expensive. However, I have been a loyal TiVo customer for some time and would have to recommend their service because I like it and I have grown used to it.

Our TiVO has been a lifesaver!

4

When we moved into a condo our HOA provided our cable, which was a great perk but it didn't allow us to get a DVR from our cable provider like we had done before.  Since we work and are often not home to watch our favorite shows a DVR is a necessity.  We decided to buy a TiVO to use as our DVR.  It has been a great investment.  Since we own the machine we don't have to be tied down to a contract with a cable provider and when we change providers we don't lose all our shows with it.  I also live the feature that allows us to pull the shows that are recorded on the DVR onto our computer and then eventually to an ipod or other device.  One flaw is that if there is ever a need to reboot the machine it takes a really long time.  Usually this only happens when the power goes out or when we need to unplug things.  Otherwise it is great to be able to own a DVR and to record the shows that we want to watch when it is convenient for us.

Tivo HD TCD652160, My latest adventure in Tivo

4

I started with one Tivo Series 2 Single Tuner TCD 540040 only about 40 hours of recording space. I could only record one channel and had to watch that channel. It was love at first site. About 2 years later I bought a second Tivo. It was a Tivo Series 2 Dual Tuner TCD649080 about 80 hours of recording. I hooked it up along with the other one as they offer a discount on service for multiple DVR's. Cable didn't do that. I love that I could hook them into my wireless network. Send shows to my other TV & my computer. I can schedule programs to record online. I tried out being a product tester for a little while. I love the Dual tuner much better than the single. I am hooked on Tivo. The season pass is awesome! Tivo lives on. I retired my single tuner and upgraded to the Tivo HD TCD652160. I have had this HD box which has about 180 hours of regular TV recording and about 22 Hours I think of HD recording for six months now. If you are hooked on HD I would recommend the extra large or the eSata Drive accessory for you.   I really like the new HD box. MY TV was an 18 year old TV until that just died. (You can check out my Vizio review) The HD has a really nice picture. I have a little trouble with the remote. It doesn't always like the angle I am holding it. I didn't have that with either of the 2 previous boxes. I have the series 2 and the HD box as I receive a multiuser discount. Something that I didn't think was clear on the site is the HD box requires a cable card. You cannot use a cable box with it. Not a problem, but you cannot install it yourself. The cable company has to do it and you get charged a monthly fee through Comcast if you already have one cable box. I like having the card inside my Tivo and not needing the cable box. I just thought this should be clearer. The HD box has more improved features as Tivo is constantly upgrading their products. FYI: When they are coming out with a new box you can pick up the last box for about 1/2 the price. You can get a warranty as if they were new. My Tivo single tuner never needed the hospital. It was retired. I still have my series 2 and it has never gone to the hospital. I hope I am not jinxing myself. Not to worry, I have warranties. I love and cannot live without my Tivo's!

I LOVE my Tivo!!!

I absolutely LOVE my Tivo!  TV watching is at a whole new level now.  Never have to worry about missing a program or the hassle of rewinding an old VHS tape when you are ready to watch!  I love the season pass option so you know every single episode of your favorite program will record.  You also have the option to record both old and new episodes or just new episodes and enter a number of those episodes that you want Tivo to keep.  So many features and options.  This Tivo is loaded!  We have upgraded our hard drive to record many more hours than this unit comes with so we have unending hours of recorded programs and never have to worry about running out of space, which is nice.  We also bought the lifetime plan, so we don't have a monthly Tivo fee.  Another huge plus!  My only complaint and it's small is that when you have to restart the Tivo (which is very rare), it does take longer than desired to start back up causing you to miss your programs (because of course they will not record while it's down).  Again, this is rare because there aren't many times when we have to restart the unit.  Overall, Tivo is a new way of watching TV and you never have to watch or waste your time on another commercial again if you don't want to.  You can watch your beloved programs in record speed and never miss an episode.  20+ stars from me!  Quick, run, don't walk and buy your Tivo now!

The Best DVR Ever

5

We purchased our TiVo over a year ago when we got sick of our local cable company's horrible DVR not recording our shows like it was suppose to. This has been the absolute best DVR we've ever used. We had a TiVo long ago when we were with DirecTV and loved the service. What TiVo is charging me each month is actually less then what my local cable company was charging me to use/rent their DVR so I really don't have an issue with their monthly fee. I do wished that my TiVo worked with both cable and satellite though. We've had a few very minor issues with our TiVo. We've had it freeze up 2 or 3 times and had to restart it but so far we've managed to not lose any of our shows. It records great and the fact that I can record from my HD channels is awesome. I do like the fact that I was able to buy a USB wireless network adapter so my TiVo can use my wireless network at home to update the guide and software. This kept us from needing to run 35 feet of phone line because phone jacks are not plentiful in our house. Overall we've been extremely pleased with our TiVo.

How did I live without it

5

I fought the DVR age for a long time. After becoming a mother I realized that watching shows "live" was a thing of the past. I balked at the idea of paying "so much money" for something I had done without my whole life. When my husband and I finally upgraded to a tivo system we were immediately impressed with it. Not only does it "tape" our favorite shows, allows us to fast forward through commercials and does it easily it also is so easy to use even the technologically impaired could do it. It was fairly easy to install (my husband is more tech savvy than I am) and was ready to go the day we got it. The menus are so easy to follow and setting up your shows to record could not be more easy. You can follow the recommendations of the tivo and find great new shows for yourself or your kids. You also can watch music videos, get the weather, buy movie tickets, play games and a ton of other features. It is worth every penny!!!

The BEST DVR around!

5

I adore my TiVo.  In all honesty, I cannot live without my TiVo (and i have tried!)  I recently upgraded to the TiVo HD XL because I got a new HDTV and it has been wonderful!  While I unfortunately could not transfer my old TiVo recordings unless I had a PC (sorry mac users), I was able to now record things in HD which is always a nice perk.  The TiVo is so quick when you want to rewind or fast forward, and does not lag at all when you press play - it predicts and stops accordingly to come back into the program on time.  It also will record on 2 channels simultaneously.  If you need to restart your TiVo for any reason, that will take 10 minutes which seems like a short time in the long run, but it feels like forever when your power comes back on from a blown fuse or a power outage.  I have been recording things since the end of april (and it's now the end of may) and it still hasn't deleted any of my programs to save space because i have SO many hours left of recording.  If you record everything at HD, it will take up more space, so I would recommend only taping things that **need** to be in HD (like nature shows on Discovery, or a favorite movie) and everything else do in standard (which still shows up fantastic anyway) and you will be able to tape everything and anything you want and still be able to save it for a long time!  I also would recommend that you turn off "TiVo Suggestions" because when you try to delete programs off the suggestions, it will only let you delete so many at a time, and then it acts like the folder itself is empty.  The TiVo, out of all DVRs, is the most efficient and user friendly DVRs i've ever used.

A Tivo HD is a necessity for tech savvy families.

5

I have only had my HD Tivo for a couple of months.  This is our second Tivo box.  We have a dual tuner Tivo attached to another television in our house.  We have been Tivo subscribers for over three years.  We upgraded to an HD Tivo for the flexibility that this one offers.  In addition to allowing us to receive HD channels on our TV over the air we are also able to subscribe to Netflix and do live-streaming movies.  The image quality of the high definition channels we get through the internal tuner are excellent.  We receive approximately 30 high definition channels on our TV now.  We subscribe to basic cable only.  We also joined Netflix and have already watched several seasons of TV shows on instant download as well as 2 movies a week.  The flexibility that this unit offers is incredible.  I highly recommend this unit to anyone thinking of getting Tivo.  You should upgrade and go with the high definition unit.

best invention since sliced bread

5

Our household has been tivo users since shortly after it came out, 10 years to be exact, and it has changed our lives. It is exceedingly easy to use, intuitive and fun! We recently upgraded one of our old tivo's. One of the first ones we bought which was still working fine but just didn't have the recording capacity we wanted. This new box was so easy to set up just basically plug and play. The newer ones now have an internal splitter so you don't need to have two inputs in. It has a really nice 180 hour recording capacity in normal tv mode and 20 hours of HD (we use the normal tv mode ourselves). In the past we have tried other dvr's to compare and maybe save a little bit of money but to be honest I would be willing to pay twice as much as we do to keep the tivo service. Right down to their very comfortable and easy to use remote it's just a superior product. With this new box we can also download directly from netflix and set recording options right from our computer. Compared to other dvr's it's faster, easier to understand, responsive (no waiting while it decides if it wants to do what you tell it!) and just generally a great product. Of course with any product there are a few things I would change about it, but very very few. All in all one of the greatest products we've ever owned.

Love it

5

We love our HD TIVO so far. We actually had their series 2 box and recently upgraded so we could get rid of cable. Some may ask, what does getting TIVO have to do with getting rid of cable. Since this TIVO is capable of pulling over the air channels (serves as a converter box), we were able to drop cable and now get a picture quality that is 100 times better than we were ever getting through cable. We've had it for 2 months so far and are actually impressed with the quantity of shows it can hold. It advertises 180 hours but when recording HD that drops to 20 hours. A misconception we had was that if a show was in HD, we could downgrade the recording quality and save some space on the hard drive. That's not the case. If its presented in HD, it can only record it in HD. We got the lifetime service and are very excited about it. When we had our series 2 box, we would unhook it and bring it to our vacation home with us. In the process, it fried the hard drive and we were out of luck and had to either repair the box (pricey) or buy a new box and a new lifetime subscription. Word of advice, just keep the box in one place and don't move it around.
