I am so happy that my girlfriend is my girlfriend. She's supportive, and loving, and she came with an ice ax.  She also came with a Thermarest sleeping pad.

I'm not even going to try to be all cool and act like I wouldn't have ever slept on anything but the ground without her.  I have slept on inflatable mattresses and floats before, especially in my Boy Scout days. My girlfriend introduced me to the right way to do it.  The thermarest sleeping pad is thinner than other inflatables, so it doesn't require anywhere near the amount of air that most  use, and it has foam inside that help inflate it most of the way.  I don't think that I've ever put more than 10-15 blows into one.  The thinner mattress is also great because it means less "wobbling" when you move.  The fill valves are different that what you might be used to.  They twist open and closed, and you can do it with your mouth on the piece.  No more frustration over air escaping while you're trying to plug the valve. The thermarest covering is tough, and it has a tight weave that won't snag on thorns and briars.

The only downside, besides getting spoiled, is that it takes up more space than my other inflatable in packed form, and it's tougher to get it as small as it gets.  I usually end up rolling over mine a couple of times, and it gets tricky because it wants to self inflate between rolling passes.

This is a great product!   I have seen, since I got access to these, other less expensive self inflating mattresses, but I haven't tested any yet. I can promise you, however, that they aren't any better.
