Are you kidding me. Acadamy Award film. No way. The film takes you through the California oil boom at the turn of the twentieth century. The story itself should have been retitled,"One man's slow descent into dementia." Daniel Day-Lewis is extrodinary in his portrayal, but the film is not. His conflicts with all humans turns him from one who might be envied, to one that must be pitied. Much of the film was slow moving and the tragic ending was self-evident and predictable.
