Thera-Gesic Maximum Strength Pain Relieving Creme —

I received a sample of Thera-Gesic Maximum Strength Pain Relieving Creme in the mail. At the time, I didn't have any use for it but unfortunately, after a couple of weeks, I injured my shoulder and was in a lot of pain. I remembered having the sample and couldn't wait to use it so I could get some relief. Unfortunately, it didn't give me much.

About Thera-Gesic...

Thera-Gesic is a topical pain relieving creme that contains 1% Menthol 15% of Methyl Salicylate as the active ingredients. This creme provides temporary relief of minor aches and pains of muscles and joints associated with arthritis, simple backaches, strains, bruises and sprains. A 3.0 oz. tube costs around $4.99 and can be purchased at most drug and grocery stores.

My Experience...

I opened up the sample package and could immediately smell a strong odor similar to Pepto-Bismol. It wasn't very unpleasant, just not a scent that I really wanted on my body. It was okay as long as I was staying home but I certainly wouldn't go anywhere smelling like that. I read on the package though that after the creme has penetrated the skin, the area can be washed without decreasing the effectiveness. I applied a thin layer of creme on my shoulder as directed on the package and felt a very slight tingling sensation. The more layers that are applied, the more intense the pain relief is. Well, I applied the maximum of three layers, which was supposed to give me a "very strong effect". I felt a strong burning sensation but not very much relief. As far as washing it off and still being effective, the scent of Pepto-Bismol lingered but the relief didn't.

My Final Viewpoint...

Overall, I wasn't very impressed with the results of Thera-Gesic Maximum Strength Pain Relieving Creme. It was somewhat effective but the relief was minimal. I'm glad that I received this creme as a sample and didn't buy a whole tube. I don't recommend Thera- Gesic since there are much more effective alternatives to pain relief out there. Personally, Ibuprofen has worked very well for me and that is what I am going to stick with. I am going with a 2 star rating on this one.

Eau de Pepto-Bismol? Yuck. And that burning sensation doesn't sound very appealing, either.

Bio-Freeze! That stuff works wonders and is used in hospitals at at PT places. I have some here. You gotta try it. It's cool and then warm and really gets to the pain. When my neck was so bad, it was the only thing that remotely helped.
