Tough economic times mean that many individuals and families cannot take care of basic needs. Some turn to government assistance, but others turn to private charities and one web site that helps increase the resources available for these basic needs is **Thehungersite.com**, a charitable site that helps feed the hungry while raising awareness.

**Charity Web Site Commentary:**

The Hunger Site is a service focused mainly on food and it promises to donate food each time you visit the site and click your mouse. I have been visiting the Hunger Site for ten years, making my clicks in the name of charity. There is a large, rectangular icon on the home page that is difficult to miss and with each click of this icon each day, the Hunger Site makes a food donation (presently, the equivalent of 1.1 cups of food). Anyone can logon and click this icon each day and many people make a visit to the Hunger Site a part of their daily internet routine. You can even request a free e-mail reminder each day, to make sure you don't forget to logon and click.

Clicking to make a free donation is great, but the Hunger Site goes much further than that. This online service also wants people to be made aware of charitable needs in general and it includes links to other charities, including those that deal with other human needs besides food. Not only can you click other links and make direct donations with a credit card, you can also sign petitions, send an e-card to a friend, and even make purchases of jewelry, clothing, outdoor items, and other goods. With each purchase, the Hunger Site makes a donation of food. In addition to that, each time you click on an advertising link, even if you don't make any purchase, the Hunger Site still makes donations. It commits its advertising money to the good of charity, so a visit to the Hunger Site is good for countless reasons.

The Hunger Site has expanded its services in the past several years and it now includes special sections for other important causes. Among these are breast cancer, child health, literacy, the rainforests, and animal rescue. Unlike the food section, there is no place to click in these subsections to make a free donation. You need to either make a purchase or make a direct donation to help these important causes.

**Bottom- Line Viewpoint:**

The Hunger Site is one of the best charitable services on the internet and it is one of several sites that offer to help others with a free donation each time someone logs on and clicks an icon. Giving monetary gifts is always welcome, but the Hunger Site is great for those who want to help others but have no money to give. Just by logging in, clicking the free donation icon, and clicking the advertising links, anyone can make a small difference.

The Hunger Site is very interesting in that it provides food to the poor and needy by utilizing sponsors who will pay money for every click.  Each click gives the sponsor exposure to the clicker thus a way to encourage patronage to their site.  I have seen this idea on another site to help feed the hungry.  I was surprised at how much they emphasized buying products.  I guess the proceeds go to help the poor as well.

This site does not say that it is aligned with any group, but they have other tabs on the same site that apparently provide support for other "worthy" causes - The Breast Cancer Site, The Child Health Site, The Literacy Site, The Rainforest Site and the Animal Rescue Site.  I'm starting to wonder how this all works.  I would like to hope it is what it says it is and I will continue to check in on this site.  They do not ask for any money and claim that clicking provides support to these various causes.

I like the concept and will probably bookmark the site.  They also have other FREE ways to support each cause through sending of eCards, Signing petitions and they even have a reminder link to help you remember to click each day.

Overall...I like this site.

Good Click for Cause, Fun Shopping

By

from Hartford, CT

Comments about TheHungerSite.com:

I visit this site often - mostly to click through the tabs and 'click for a cause' but also to shop, especially at the holidays. There's a large variety of items for sale in their online store and it's great to purchase something that will give back.

You can shop through clothes, either boasting the site's purpose/goal, or made fair trade in a country that needs the economic boost. There's a big variety of jewelry with the same concepts. Plenty of everyday knick knacks from wall hangings with cute sayings to travel coffee mugs. I have bought adorable recycled material planters, beautiful handmade scarves, cute Christmas tree ornaments and fun-print reusable bags. All purchases also donate cups of food to the hungry (or to animals, or Veterans, etc, depending on the tab you're searching through)

I also love that you can give the gift of 'assistance'. You can donate to the care of shelter animals in someone's name, or buy a goat for a third world family that could use the milk, or a sheep for the wool. I have purchased many of these for people who have attachments to certain types of animals, as a go-along gift, and they really like it.

This is a great site.

Such a Wonderful Site

By

from MI

Comments about TheHungerSite.com:

The HungerSite.com is a website with a mission. This website provides food to hungry people in our country, and other countries, all over the world. The idea is extremely simple. Visit HungerSite.com once per day, click on the big yellow button, and that's it. By clicking the yellow button you have instantly donated food to people in need. It's amazing. On their website it states that clicks alone last year donated over 52 million cups of food to hungry people around the world. WHAT?! That is simply amazing and it's just such a worthwhile page.
Besides the "click" feature, there is a lot of great information on the page, as well as an opportunity to shop. And the proceeds from the shopping section also go toward funding for more food.

Overall, it's a wonderful page and it's such an important cause.

It literally takes 30 seconds to click on the link and contribute to feeding those in need.

An interesting way to help good causes

By

from Pittsburgh, PA USA

Comments about TheHungerSite.com:

I love to help out when I can. I volunteer a lot and I give to several charities, so when I heard about the hunger site, I was interested in learning how using a website might be able to help. The basic gist is that you can make purcahses through the site and proceeds will go to hunger relief charities. Feeding America is the umbrella organization most local and regional food banks are networked with. Even if you don't want to shop, you can still help. They have a few "free" actions. You can sign up for emails and they will donate two cups of food. You can also click their yellow "click here" banner which counts total clicks and they receive donations based on the number of clicks. They have quite a selection of products on the site and most are very affordable. There are cute jewelry items starting as low as $6.99 and there re also many fair trade certified items as well. I got an awesome amber butterfly necklace. Every time I wear it, it is a reminder of the need to help the hungry and the fact that I did something small to help. In addition to this site, the same parent company also has sites taht benefit cancer charities, animal charities, veterans and more. Be sure to check them out. If you are going to shop online anyway, you might as well do it to support a good cause.

Product Selection
I was impressed with the number and variety of items that are available, especially with jewelry.

Product Pricing
I expected inflated prices because of the charitable donation, but the prices were on par with other places you can buy similar products.

Comments about TheHungerSite.com:

The Hunger Site is a charitable site implemented by greatergood.com for those passionate about fulfilling the needs of those in need of food. They attack the issue of hunger by offering a free one click option to donate to the site or by signing a petition. They also sell various products from their Hunger Site store for consumers to purchase in order for them to donate to the site. Some of the products sold are dresses, skirts, hoodies, pajamas, necklaces, bracelets, watches, fair trade clothing, and so much more. Each click or purchase not only donates food around the U.S., but their reach goes around the globe to other countries like the Middle East, Asia, Africa, and others. They also offer online literature for consumers to learn more about the Hunger Site Owners, the Hunger Site, Hunger, GreaterGood, World Hunger, and Hunger in the U.S. that will go more in detail about their history and their hunger for ending world hunger. No more trying to donate extravagant gifts to star charities who claim they are working to end world hunger. The Hunger Site has allowed me to donate to end world hunger and poverty by purchasing a product from their store or by logging on and clicking a button for free. The Hunger Site is an awesome site and dedicated to an even greater cause.

Good cause

Comments about TheHungerSite.com:

I happened upon Thehungersite.com by chance one day. I am glad that I found it and now make it my business to tell others about it as well. What I love the most about it is that every time I shop there, I know that I am making a positive difference in the world I live in. Also, I would like to make it clear that I do not shop here solely because of it's purpose. I absolutely love the unique and interesting finds on the site. Especially the jewelry. The honestly have such a unique and fairly priced selection of products. They also have a good variety of serenity prayer products.Their jewelry is high quality in my opinion because it is hand made and they come from places like Africa. They also have really cool gifts for kids. Their clothing selection is interesting to say the least. It is not the largest selection but, they do support a really good cause. Their shipping process is pretty quick and efficient and I usually receive my order in 10 days or less from the time I place an order. The also have flat shipping prices that are based on the method you choose - whether it be ground shipping, expedited or something in between. I enjoy the site very much and wish more people knew about the site.

Website for Greater Good

By

from Colorado Springs, CO

Comments about TheHungerSite.com:

I love websites that help noble causes with their sales. TheHungerSite.com is a website that helps many good causes including world hunger, breast cancer, autism, animals, veterans, the rain forest and fight against diabetes. One of the features I absolutely love the most is actions you can take for free to help these various causes if you do not have the spare time or funds to personally commit. You can choose a cause and click to donate and it does not cost you a thing but still helps those in need. You can find news and pictures about the current information relating to the various causes. You can also shop for numerous products as well. My favorite purchases have been of jewelry items whose proceeds directly help animals in need. The customer service is top notch on this website as well. The quality of the products I have received from my purchases are also of good quality. This is overall a great website for everyone. The shipping speed was very impressive as well.

Please visit thehungersite.com to help feed the hungry

By

from New York, NY

Comments about TheHungerSite.com:

I take my metaphorical hat off and must fully commend the creators of thehungersite.com website. This website is a wonderful charitable endeavor that everyone can participate in and contribute to. It is amazing what the single power of one click a day can do. All it takes is one daily click on the yellow button to help feed millions of people. I have this website bookmarked and make sure that I visit every morning and give my one click to help those in need. You can also help donate 2 cups of food by signing up for their e-mails. This is such a great way to be able to give back those less fortunate. What makes The Hunger Site unique is that even if you cannot afford to donate money, you can still help by visiting the website and clicking one button. It takes less than a minute out of your day.

Thanks to its visitors, thehungersite.com is able to donate on average around 10 pounds of food a day which is the equivalent of 80 thousand cups of food. I strongly urge people to visit this website and click the yellow button every day.

Great site for those interested in contributing to charities.

Comments about TheHungerSite.com:

The Hunger Site is a great site for those interested in various charities. They not only deal with hunger, but a wide variety of other issues such as veterans, animals, breast cancer, autism, diabetes, rainforest, etc. One of the best parts of the site, in my opinion, is the ability to contribute just with one click of your mouse. You can visit the site everyday and click on the a button at each of the pages for the various causes and each click will give a certain amount of food, or etc to the cause. They have statistics of how many people clicked each day and how many bowls of food were donated. This allow everyone to take part in the cause and do it for free too. It brings awareness to the cause and helps a little bit at a time. It shows how with thousands of people helping, even by just clicking the button, can achieve something great. I like this site because it allows me to contribute.

Great site!

Comments about TheHungerSite.com:

I love this site! It is such a great cause! I shop through this one as well as the one for breast cancer and animals. You can buy great little things at great prices for great causes! I shop these sites especially for gifts, they have the cutest items that you wouldn't find anywhere else. This is a great way to donate to a great cause without having to spend any more money than on what you are purchasing! I have bought so many things from these sites and have never had to return anything and have always been very happy! If you sign up for their daily e-mails they will send you coupons via e-mail and send you the daily deals and sale items. They also send you a daily click e-mail which is a way to donate to these charities just by clicking through an e-mail! I just love their store, you can find many handmade items, bath items and awesome kitchen gadgets that make great house warming gifts!

Such a great idea!

By

Comments about TheHungerSite.com:

For just a click a day, you can feed hungry people and animals or fuel efforts to help other problem issues today.

Their store is also AWESOME. Lots of hand made, sustainable, and vibrant items.

My one recommendation would be for them to host videos of them showing EXACTLY where our clicks go and how it helps the target population. That would hugely increase support I think. They do have some photos but I don't think that's enough.

Really good humanitarian site. I just hope it doesn't go down the wrong path. I know a lot of organizations start off with good intentions, but when they get big, things fall through rings with scandals or management issues.

Also, you can click once a day for multiple causes you want to help!

I do want to clarify though that this is a way for people to really "feel" like they are doing good indirectly, without actually getting out and getting involved. Seems to be the culture today and that's unfortunate. Throwing money at the problem helps, but it doesn't help in say, the distribution of resources bought with the money.
