The zone diet is effective, easy to follow, and safe. It will help with more then simple weight issues, including diabetes, and joint pain. The premise of the diet is that at each meal you should consume approximately 10 grams of fat, 20 grams of protein (2x the fat grams) and 30 grams of carbohydrate (3x the fat grams). The carbs are from fruits and vegatables, little or no bread, pasta, or potatoes. The rest of the diets that cite glycemic index are variations of the zone diet. The Zone is not a "diet", but a new and healthy way of thinking about your relationship with food. Based on the personal experiences of my husband and me, it works. I've read many books about diet programs. I am not dieting to lose weight - I have chronic health difficulties that require me to be very conscious and cautious of what I eat.

This is one of only 2 general nutrition-related books that I recommend when asked. The Zone makes much sense, and is much easier to apply and stick with than nearly all of the others. It just takes a little understanding and a desire to implement it.

I tried Sears' Zone after a friend recommended it. I was training for a powerlifting meet and a sprint triathlon, and was interested in finding out if changing my eating habits could improve my training. I ate more than the recommended number of blocks because I was doing a lot of training. I only lost a few pounds (I wasn't trying to), but my body composition changed to significantly leaner. I performed well in both events I was training for.

Diets simply do not work, at leasst for very long!

As a veteran dieter- yo-yo Lady- I finally gave up and had gastric bypass.; I finally learned that DIETS DO NOT WORK. The word "diet" implies a limited time period, NOT permanance. I have read about this plan, and if you followed it forever, its a healthy meal plan BUT are you really gonna eat this way.......your whole life? Doubt it. The Zone is a decent way to eat but puhleeze dont think of it as a "diet"!

The Zone eating program is easy to use once you get the hang of it. It took about one week. The recipes are delicious. I am diabetic and will soon be off of my blood sugar medication. The concept is to keep your body's insulin even throughout the day. This helps control my blood sugar, has lowered my choleterol, and I have lost 30 pounds in 3 months. The added benefits are increased energy, better sleep, and probably some I haven't even found out about yet.

I've been on many diets, mostly related to staying healthy. This one makes the most sense to me in a long-term health way. You can eat what you want, you just have to focus on portions. I tend to eat fairly healthfully, but I like to splurge as much as anyone else. It's nice to not feel guilty when I do. When you fall off the train, just hop back on at the next meal.

The zone isnt some gimmicky diet. Its a real life eating plan. It helps you understand portions, good fats, protein, carbs and sugar in a realistic sense. Most people don't understand the basics and that's why their diets fail. This book teaches you what you need to know to flourish and befriend food.

I read this book when it first came out years ago and still follow the basic principles of a lean protein, small amount of bread or pasta, and many vegetables at each meal. It's the only way I can maintain my weight and is a no-brainer
