This television series from the creators of OZ, Homicide: Life on the Streets, and Generation Kill is the best television series ever aired. The series was written about the political, criminal, and social issues surrounding very compelling characters in Baltimore Maryland, an American city in decline. Each season focuses on a separate issue of the problems of our society and the causes of those problems ranging from poverty, corruption, the school system, the press, and the political institution all while using creative, funny and compelling characters that can make you laugh, cry, and think. ...
review »What Simon and his collaborators achieve is breathtaking -- creating a dozen parallel plotlines that slowly converge as the season progresses, all rooted in a totally organic world. There is drug kingpin Marlo (Jamie Hector), consolidating his hold on the streets; Det. Lester Freamon (Clarke Peters), who continues to follow the drug money despite his higher-ups' reluctance to stir the pot in an election year; and former cop Howard Colvin (the magnificent Robert Wisdom), who, after unilaterally decriminalizing drugs in season three, is recruited to research at-risk teens, intersecting with the aforementioned...
review »Now, I'm honestly not usually into crime shows. I have never seen a Law and Order and never watched a CSI. Truly, I haven't. When my husband said that he wanted to watch The Wire, I groaned and braced myself for some mindnumbing sleuthing. Well, The Wire is nothing like that! Thank the TV Gods!
For the most part, the acting is phenomenal. And, they don't result to the gimmick of having one really well-known star surrounded by some other lesser known actors (yes, I'm talking to you, CSI). So, it's really nice to be introduced to new actors.
The plots are also great (with the exception...
review »The Wire is the best feeling show I've ever watched. I say feeling because, when your watching it you can't help but feel for the characters. From Jim McNulty the Homicide Detective/ Alcoholic to Avon Barksdale the top drug dealer on Baltimore's westside. You want to see what this character is going to do next, and alot of times your rooting for both side The Cop and The Streets. That the gold about this show, Its main character Baltimore, its plays as much part of The Wire Story as the Cops or Drug Dealers. And this show wants to show you all of Baltimore. The Wire give you many view point of...
review »The Wire was a great series on HBO. We can't wait for the next season to start. My husband and I watched religiously, and couldn't get enough. Very realistic look at crime and law enforcement. The criminals and the crimes they commit are based on today's problems, and how they are handled. The show draws you in, and keeps you wanting more, to see how things are going to work out, if the police are going to catch the bad guy, to what lengths the police and everyone involved will go to catch the criminals, or keep the "good guys" from getting caught, wondering, who are the real "bad guys?"
I love crime shows. David Simon is a genius! I have seen part of the fourth season and just started the fifth. The characters are really well-developed. Very few of them are all good or all bad. I really feel bad when something bad happens to one of the "good guys"- you can really empathize with these guys. The drug-addicts aren't just bums- they're (mostly) loveable, and you really hope they don't end up dead.
Lots of swearing, but it just adds to the authenticity and, in some cases, the humor.
This was an awesome show that I was turned on to a little late. I did not start watching until the 3rd season and was immediately hooked. Awesome show that shows what it really is like to grow up in the streets of Baltimore, shady politicians, and corrupt officers. It also show the good and the people who really try to make a difference despite the obstacles.
If you like action, Drama and suspense then you'll love the Wire. I have all the episode and it's really good I became hooked when it was on HBO. I'm a fan of the Wire. It show how there good and bad people in the Ghetto and in politics,Hardlife and ways out .The Wire is a good Drama.
I liked the show however hated the direction it went at the end. It got really boring when it started to focus more on the kids. Hated the way it ends. And the changes in the theme song.
The wire is one of the best shows that i have seen in a while on tv. It gives you a glimpse of real life situations. This show is great.
Recently I started getting into DVD sets for series I hadn't seen before but heard a lot of buzz for. Moving and traveling a lot never had HBO, but there were times I made an effort to catch the Sopranos.
Hearing an interview with the creator of The Wire on NPR, and some of the dialog of the character Snoop intrigued me enough to give it a try. From episode one I was hooked and went through the series as fast as I can using my Blockbuster mail and exchange programs. Think I went through the whole series (except the last season) in one week. Then when the last season was released, devoured...
