Recently I started getting into DVD sets for series I hadn't seen before but heard a lot of buzz for. Moving and traveling a lot never had HBO, but there were times I made an effort to catch the Sopranos.
Hearing an interview with the creator of The Wire on NPR, and some of the dialog of the character Snoop intrigued me enough to give it a try. From episode one I was hooked and went through the series as fast as I can using my Blockbuster mail and exchange programs. Think I went through the whole series (except the last season) in one week. Then when the last season was released, devoured it in a day.
The Wire has some truly unique story telling that hadn't been done before or since. Bold reality rarely seen even on cable. Unexpected twists were always wonderful, and not so story book stories endings for some characters. Some story lines haunt me still, as the story of a "legalized" drug zone or the unexpected end of a key bad guy/good guy in the series final season.
