My student housing comany put me up in this hotel when my apartment building wasn't finished on time. As a college student, it was by far the nicest hotel I've ever stayed in without my parents. The rooms were very pretty, particularly the furniture. I beds were layered with 4 bottom sheets, along with top of the line linens. It was literally the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in.
In terms of fine dining options, the hotel has average choices. However, the Bonaventure features a food court that has great options if you're looking for a quick meal. After a couple of days, hotel restaurants start to overwhelm me, so it was great to have some less intense options.
The elevators alone are a fantastic reason to visit the Bonaventure, even if you're not staying there. There are several fast-moving elevators around the outside of the building that are made almost entirely of glass. They offer a great view of the city.
For travelers who aren't familiar with Los Angeles, it's important to know that "downtown" L.A. is not the bustling center that it is in most cities. Downtown L.A. consists almost entirely of business offices, and the entire area shuts down on weekends and evenings. Also, downtown is not particularly convenient to the typical tourist attractions (Hollywood, Santa Monica, Disneyland, etc.).
