The Wedding Singer —

I was a teenager in the 80's and it was a decade that I absalutely loved.  I loved the music, the big hair, the make up, the clothing and just the general happiness and easiness of that decade. In this decade we now think all of the looks from the 80's were quite funny, and in fact our children often laugh at the way we used to dress and behave, but anyone who lived in that decade knows that we had fun.  One movie that reminds me of the 80's in a humorous fashion is the Wedding Singer.

The wedding singer stars Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore.

The movie is set in the mid 1980's when Boy George, Billy Idol, and the Flock of Seagulls were in full force.  Robbie Hart (Adam Sandler) was a wedding singer.  Julia (Drew Barrymore), was a banquet waitress.  Since these two professions often happened in the same location they became friends.

When Robbie gets stood up at the alter he becomes depressed.  During a conversation with Julia he learns that she is getting married.  Since Robbie has all the experience of planning a wedding, without actually having one, Julia asks Robbie if he will help her out and sort of be like her wedding planner.  Robbie agrees, and the two of them go about planning Julia's wedding.

Robbie likes Julia a lot and he is begining to fall for her.  The fact that she is about to marry Glen an egotisical Don Johnson wanna be who cheats on her all the time is heart breaking for him. Robbie would love to have Julia for himself but fears that he can not provide her with all the things in life that Glen can.  Julia is falling for Robbie too, but neither of them know about their feelings for each other.

Will Julia go through with a marriage to a man who she doesn't love, or will Robbie and Julia find their way to each other.

This movie is a fun romp through the 80's.  It has funny moments.  Julia and Robbie both have great best friends, and they add humor to the film.  Though Adam Sandler plays a lot of high strung out of control characters, the Robbie Hart character is more of a normal low key guy, and although I enjoy his normal high strung characters I really like the Robbie Hart character as well.  Sandler and Barrymore play off each other well and are really cute together.

The movie has one of my all time favorite movie endings.  I really like this movie, I have seen it several times.  It is charming, cute, and romantic.  It is not an Oscar type movie, it is just a nice sweet fun to watch movie.

Note:  Other than some bad language, this movie is safe for most children to watch.
