In a time when movie theaters are packing them in with big action flick titles, I was pleasantly surprised by The Wedding Date DVD I rented. As far as romantic comedies go, this one ranks pretty high on my list.

It worked for me because I could feel the chemistry between Debra Messing and Dermot Mulroney. They worked very well together and pulled off the fighting and the "make-up sex" scenes.

The Wedding Date starts off with Debra Messing's character, Kate Ellis, paying for a male escort (Dermot Mulroney, AKA Nick Mercer). She meet sup with her date-for hire with the intention of showing off to her ex-fiance at her sister's wedding in London.

The bulk of the movie revolves around the family events leading up to the wedding and how Nick falls for Kate almost as quickly as she falls for him.

Nick nearly screws up the whole thing by withholding important information he learns about Kate's ex. They make up just in time for the ceremony, however, and he even earns himself a spot as the best man.

I would recommend The Wedding Date as a date movie or chick flick. For me, it was a nice break from watching superheroes and aliens.

I just happened to watch this on TV a couple days ago and liked it some. There's lots of pretty women in short skirts in this film, which gives guys something to watch. You know where the plot is going immediately but the lead actors are charming and attractive, so it works. Good review!
