The trailers for TheWater Horse:  Legends of the Deep were very interesting and both my husband and I were looking forward to the release of this 2007 film on DVD. He was a bit more excited about the movie and anticipated watching it like a little kid.  He admitted that the movie wasn't as good as he was expecting, but it was still a good movie that be both enjoyed.

Synopsis

A young boy named Angus (Alex Etel) finds a mysterious egg along the shore in Scottland and brings it home with him.  He is surprised to find that the egg has hatched and even more surprised to see what is inside---a water...

When a young boy, named Angus, finds something unusual in the water, he takes it home with him.  He cleans it up, and begins chipping away at the outside of it, only to discover that it appears to be glowing.  Angus is intrigued and keeps it, and later finds it to be an egg that something has hatched out of.

Of course, it turns out to be an odd little creature that he can't quite place.  Angus is a smart, yet sad little boy, that quickly finds pleasure in the creature.  Angus' father is away at war and this little creature helps fill the lonely void.  After much research, and with a little...

Most people are familiar with the Scottish legend of the Loch Ness Monster. The 2007 family drama The Waterhorse: Legend of the Deep, based on the novel by Dick King-Smith, is the magical tale of a creature similar to the Loch Ness Monster, that changes the life a young boy in Scotland during World War II.

The tale is told in flashback style, to a curious young couple, by an old man in a pub. The old man tells the story a lonely young boy named Angus, (Alex Estel) who lives in the small village of Loch Ness in Scotland. Angus' father is away at war, while his mother (Emily Watson) is head...

If you don't believe that a Loch Ness Monster is possible, then you probably wouldn't enjoy this film.  It is set in World War II era Scotland, and as such confused alot of viewers that I talked to who thought it was more of a War picture or what War did to families....The War was a backdrop, not the focus.  It was a story about believing in miracles, about children being able to see things that adults cannot or will not, relationships, trust, with a fantasy element.  I enjoyed it.  In fact, we took 8 kids between 5 and 9 to see it at a matinee for my daughter's birthday, and they all seemed... review »

I watched this movie with both of my young children and they both fell in love with the waterhorse. My youngest is 1 so for anything to keep her attention it must be good. I enjoyed it overall as well. The movie is very cute. There are some parts that really get you on the edge of your seat.

I enjoyed this clever movie. The special effects were very good. Also the plot had some on the edge of your seat moments. Over all it was well worth the time spent watching it.

My Mum was Scottish.  She met my Dad while he was stationed in Scotland.  So, I was raised on quite a few Scottish and celtic legends.  Nessie was a big part of my childhood memories.  I had taken one of my sons back to Scotland for a family reunion this past summer, so he was introduced a bit to the folklore.  This movie offers answers to some of the legend.

I will admit, the first part of the movie had my youngest son, 3 years old, a bit scared due to the dark and the lightening.  But all three of my sons enjoyed the movie.  We all went back to watch it with my husband this past weekend. ...

I TOOK MY 5 YEAR OLD SON TO SEE THIS MOVIE...IT WAS ON HIS LIST OF MOVIES TO SEE AND HAPPENED TO BE THE ONLY ONE AVAILABLE WHEN WE WERE AT THE MOVIE THEATER.

I MUST ADMIT THAT ONCE IT BEGAN, I WASN'T QUITE SURE WE WOULD MAKE IT THROUGH THE ENTIRE MOVIE...HOWEVER, AFTER THE FIRST 10 MINUTES EVEN I WAS HOOKED.

THE STORY IS WONDERFUL, MIXING IN A BIT OF WORLD WAR HISTORY WITH THE LEGENDARY LOCH NESS MONSTER...JUST ENOUGH TO KEEP WATCHERS OF ALL AGES ENTERTAINED AND ENGROSSED.

WHILE IT DOES GET A BIT INTENSE TOWARDS THE END, ITS NOT A SCARY MOVIE BY ANY MEANS.

WE'VE BEEN BACK 2 TIMES TO SEE IT WITH...

Brings a new perspective with some historical information as to what and why the Loch ness monster has been so hard to capture on "real" filmography. It has a good plot, and good acting. Plus the scenery is gorgous for the era it is suppose to be filmed in.
My only suggestion is that young children understand that there "is" some loud noises assocciated with this film that could hurt their hearing / freighten them a little (depending on each child's sensitivity level).

This movie premiered on Christmas day and that's when I saw it.  I have always read books about the loch ness monster and love the mystery.  The characters were interested with the story being set during World War II with the soldiers view points, viewpoint of the family left behind, and the character who is a "War Hero" but doesn't want to be acknowledged for it.  The character of the small boy is great

We got the film for the kids to watch, but quite enjoyed it ourselves.  I had to make sure to explain a few things to my four and almost three year olds about war and violence, but otherwise good.  I think I missed the part about the kid's Dad though.  I must have gotten interrupted by my own kids.  It was very charming and full of action.
