UT-Martin is the best school in the state of Tennessee.  I grew up in a college town, live in one now, and can be at UT-Knoxville ('the' UT) in about a half-hour.  Instead, I chose to come 400 miles across the state to rural northwest Tennessee?

Why?

1.  Safety.  UT-Martin is the safest school in the state and one of the safest in the South.  We have our own police force that patrols 24/7 on foot, bike, Segway, and in motor vehicles.  Martin is a small Southern town of about 10,000 (+students).  It is the sort of place where you can leave your doors unlocked and the keys in your car.

2. Close relationships with professors.  UTM only has 8,000 students.  You will know your professors.  They will know you.  There are very few TAs on campus, and your classes are taught by actual professors.  They have BBQs at their homes and will gladly give you their cell phone number.

3.  Top-notch academics for the money.  Our tuition and fees are very low, even in Tennessee. We have the highest-rate ag program in the state, and our own teaching farm is right across the street from the main part of campus.  We are recognized as Tennessee's public ivy college, with top-ranked programs in the Humanities, Arts, Business, Nursing, etc.

Other reasons:  The cafeteria food is great.  The quad is gorgeous - a registered botanical garden.  Field trips are the norm.

Come to Martin.  You won't be sorry.
