I had seen this movie at the movie store and it piqued my interest. I knew from how many were available to rent that it was an obscure movie, but they were all rented the first time I noticed it?! It wasn't until my 20 year old son mentioned it and gave it a good review "You'll like this one, Mom!", that I decided to make the effort to rent and watch it.
Now, you have to understand that this is not a movie that a normal 20 year old boy would watch ... or admit to watching. However; my son and I share a love for motivational and inspiring movies and books that have a message. Something that you can learn and use to "move forward" in life. We obviously love the "against all odds" theme and have quite a collection of movies that motivate. We are both athletes, but we also have dealt with adversity...have met the challenge head on, overcome ... beat the odds ... and daily strive for something to help us continue the journey with a positive attitude.
The Ultimate Gift is actually a series of gifts that a grandfather leaves his grandson...these gifts that he must find and in some instances work for, or learn from, lead him to the Ultimate Gift. The ideas...the gifts...the lessons that come from this movie are things that everyone needs to learn and incorporate in their life. It is difficult to explain this movie without giving too much away, but I honestly feel that if you are searching for something in your life this movie can motivate you to keep moving forward. You might even find or learn something that helps you find what you are looking for...something that can make a big difference in your life.
I was surprised, but my husband also watched this with me and he commented that he wanted the movie to continue....basically, that it was so good you did not want it to be over. There are some big names in this movie and the acting is exceptional as is the plot and storytelling.
Since I am writing this in December, I encourage you to watch The Ultimate Gift as a Christmas present to yourself. You will not have that "presents are opened, now what, let down" feeling after watching it. It will stay with you for a long time and you will find yourself making decisions based on things you saw and "learned" from this movie.
